Randy Gregory DE Nebraska 6' 6" 250 lb.I have scouted all the top players and Gregory is by far my top rated defensive player in the draft. Strengths:Explosive first step to get around the edge.Room to grow into his frame, and become prototypical size.High motor player who commands double and triple teams.Forced opponents to gameplan against him in 2014.Displays a good variety of pass rush moves.Has the strength at current weight to bull rush elite college OTs.Uses his hands well.Has a nose for the football.Very good at shedding blocks and finding the ball carrier.Hustles to make the play.Incredible closing speed.Weaknesses:Lost his stamina late in games. Can get washed out of the play if he loses forward momentum.Has a hard time beating double teams.Needs to improve his dip when rushing around the edge.I am having an extremely hard time finding any negatives about his game. First of all, to the untrained eye, he may not impress with his results in 2014, but what I noticed is that every game I saw he was double and triple teamed often. Even more, in a few games the opposing offense ran plays according to where he was on the field. If he lined up on the right side, the play went left, and vice versa. That is an extremely high honor for any player to have. Being that good that the opposition has to create a gameplan to try to neutralize him. IMO Randy Gregory is the cream of this years crop of edge rushers, and in fact of all defensive players. His ideal fit would be as a 4-3 DE. He could probably fit in as a 3-4 OLB but the fact is, he does not have experience dropping back into coverage. Here is one of the few plays MSU tried to run to his side of the field: http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=253814&gif=DarlingIdealBushsqueaker On this play he gets chopped but because of this great length and explosiveness he is able to make the play. Here he is against one of the best tackles in college football, Ereck Flowers: http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=253752&gif=GiddyKeenAfricancivet On this play, they decide to not double team him and he bull rushes Flowers into the QB and creates a pressure. You wont find much film of Flowers being walked back into the QB, this is a rare occurance. Here he is against Rutgers who double teamed him all day. This play shows you all you need to know about his desire: http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=253958&gif=CreepyVastAustraliancattledog He is double teamed, slammed to the ground and gets up to track the QB down and sack him. Unreal hustle and desire.Special teams player: http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=254080&gif=PertinentDeadAlligatorgar Against the RB: http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=253752&gif=SolidOfficialBellsnake Going around the edge and creating a turnover: http://www.draftbreakdown.com/gif-embed/?clip=253752&gif=FlakyOddBlacklab Outlook as a Buccaneer fan:As much as I love his potential as a 4-3 edge rusher, the Buccaneers are going to draft a QB with the number one selection and Gregory will be gone by pick no.5. We have virtually no chance of drafting Randy Gregory.
