Best Quarterback Prospect That Didn't Attend The NFL Combine By Alex Whiteman February 27, 2014 7:32 am Gilbert_Zps739F6Fa0.JpgFifteen NFL hopefuls at the quarterback position were invited to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.  Despite throwing for 3,528 yards and scoring 27 total touchdowns in his senior season before getting hurt, Southern Methodist quarterback Garrett Gilbert was snubbed from the combine invite list. On paper, Gilbert seems to have it all; coming in a 6’4 233 lbs, the SMU quarterback has the size and athleticism to function as a pocket passer at the next level. Head Coach June Jones has done his best to set his quarterback up for success at the next level, and certainly is viewed as an above average collegiate coach with great connections.Gilbert was once the most heralded schoolboy quarterback in the land, selected by Parade magazine as its national Player of the Year in 2008. Gilbert threw for two touchdowns off the bench in the national title game against Alabama as a true freshman at Texas, then went on to start 14 games for the Longhorns over the next two years before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in 2011. Gilbert transferred to SMU in 2012 and rebuilt his career under June Jones. He passed for 2,932 yards and 15 touchdowns in his first year learning a new offense in 2012, then threw for 3,528 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2013 before a knee injury ended his season in the 10th game. The rise, fall, and return of Garrett Gilbert has come full circle, and is now ready to begin a new chapter. http://www.footballnation.com/content/best-quarterback-prospect-that-didnt-attend-the-nfl-combine/28724/

His father was a long time back up QB in the NFL who became notorious for being on 5 consecutive Super Bowl teams.

A great candidate to bring in as UDFA in my opinion, makes since to go to camp with four Quarterbacks. I wouldn't draft him personally.

Have to disagree a bit and say Brett Smith was the best QB not invited. Some say he was the biggest "snub" of all the players who weren't.

Oh snap, I remember this kid now... totally forgot he was the one that came off the bench against Bama a few years back. He had moments of looking like a legit QB.

There has to be something going on with him.  That shoulder or knee might be more F-uped than they are letting on.

Lots of moves in college...  Never was at a place long enough to establish.  Really hurt his stock.
