Rick Stroud poses this question in TBT article. He doesn't pose the answer of course. Predictably, the first guy to comment on the article said "We'll be fine." Sounds like something people on this board would say. Yes we are fine because its the offseason and nobody is playing. But how do you go from worst to "We'll be fine"? I'd like an explanation, if that's your position.
The TJ Ward experiment was a failure. The push to draft Derwin James didn't happen. But it shows that Tampa wants to upgrade safety, but hasn't. We have one starting safety in Evans.
When people say "Don't trade Desean Jackson because its great to have depth", well you may have depth at WR buy you are in deep doo doo at safety. The rest of the bunch is suspect. Tandy has started 15 of 84 games he's been with the Bucs. He is a career backup and likely he is being paid like one with his new contract, and that's what his role should be. Chris Conte is in his 8th year. He's been the starter in the worst defensive backfield in the league, and now he is one year older. How do you feel comfortable with that? Both of those guys should be playing backup/spot starter roles. They should be Plan B, not Plan A. Or would you rather have a 4th round draft pick starting?
So I'm fully expecting anybody who might respond to say "We'll be fine." Go ahead.
