Well most of the contracts are set up to terminate with little salary concern. MD wasn't overly concerned if they would have had to franchise Freeman had things turned out differently. It isn't as bad as it appears I don't believe.

The following players have no guaranteed money and no penalty if cut/or traded.Davin Joseph $6MJeremy Zuttah $4.5MMichael Koenen $3.3MDerek Landri $1.5MGabe Carimi $1.4MTotal savings $16.7M.The following are a bunch of no names and guys that aren't likely to stick around under the new regime. They make very little, but it adds up.Luke Stocker $650kAnthony Gaitor $650kMichael Smith $550kLeonard Johnson $550kDanny Lansanah $570kKelcie McCray $570kChris Owusu $570kScott Solomon $570kRashaan Melvin $500Skye Dawson $500kKa'lial Glaud $500kMichael Hill $500kMatt Masifilo $500kBradley McDougald $500kPatrick Omameh $500kRussell Shepard $500kMarc Anthony $420kMarvin Booker $420kEmmett Cleary $420kJace Daniels $420kTotal savings $10.4M.Add both those groups together and we could gain a total of $27.1M in cap space for a total of $37.3M. guess it isn't as bad as it sounds.

Problem with that second group is that even if you let them go, you need to back fill all those positions with similar level people and pay.  The top group should be as good as cut.

Well yes. Whenever you cut someone it creates a hole to be filled....but if you assume that Lovie will want to rid the roster of Schiano's "depth" and bring in his own players....then it is nice to know we could have almost $40M in cap space to do so. I mean look at WR for example. Owusu, Dawson, and Sheppard account for just $1.5M combined....but we can probably sign a solid FA receiver, draft one, and then bring in another el cheapo guy that fits what Lovie wants, and be 100x better off, for $4M. It's nice to know there will be some cap space there to play with and upgrade our sorry ass depth. That's all I am saying.

Do they still have two way players?  That's a huge purge.  Too much in one off season.

Were the contracts set up favorably? Sure.Does it speak volumes that we are having to move forward on so many of these "easy out" clauses with players that turned out to be bust signings? You bet it does.

So tired of conflicting reports. I heard $17M and $20M for months.....now it's $10M? That sucks. We don't even have an expensive franchise QB and we have holes all over the roster.....and yet we are almost maxed out? No wonder Dom was fired. Mike Will only makes $1.8M this season....what happens in 2015 when his cap hit jumps up to $8M? We gotta resign David and Martin soon....smh. This roster does need blown up and rebuild. No way we should be this close to the cap limit.

We're eating the Nicks contract with absolutely nothing to show for it.  Our 9+ mil per safety was actually a negative on the field at times, and definitely never played anywhere close to a league elite level.  Then all that money that's going to get clipped off the rest of the oline.  Then you have VJax, GMaC, and Revis counting like **CENSORED** 45 mil or whatever (God bless them they earn that coin but it adds up quick) between the three.  So we're over 80 mil against the cap with those 8 bodies (Nicks, Goldson, Penn, Joseph, Zuttah, Jackson, McCoy, Revis).another 5.5 for our specialists. How the **CENSORED** are we fielding a team under the cap is the better question.

Can't re do David until after 2015 and Bucs have 5th year option (2016) on Martin per the 20111 CBA

Shouldn't that be 2014?His contract is for 4 years with an option for a 5th but they can renegotiate after the end of the 3rd season.

The Bucs are not going to blow up the entire offensive line. Too much change in one year. They may jettison either Penn or Joseph or restructure the contracts and play around with the 2nd string, but dont expect some huge purge. The line is inconsistent and expensive and has problems....but dont throw the baby out with the bathwater. OLs take time to gel and develop in this league. Upsetting the chemistry too much can be counter-productive.I think most of the starters on this team will remain.

The average in the league for the top 5 players on each team is over $50 million. So we are actually right near the middle of the pack. I know it sounds nuts, but that's today's NFL. The rich get richer. The top 10% of the players in the league is making the majority of the money.

Yep. It is crazy but that is how it works. My problem is that our top 8 include two guards, a center, and a safety. And not one of them is great. Not even close. I think ideally your top paid players would include a LT, QB, CB, WR/TE, and pass rushers.

More proof Dom had no clue how to contstruct a team. He just threw crap at the wall and hoped it stuck.

The offensive line blows up on itself every year. We may as well be proactive.

A few cheaper FA options to improve the bottom half of our roster. 16 players that we could realistically sign at reasonable prices (and theoretically who they would replace) that would significantly improve our roster. Spend roughly 20 million on 11 or 12 of these guys and look for studs in the draft, or spend roughly the same 20 million on Alex Mack, Peanut Tillman, & Jared Allen and try to draft solid depth. Which is better?WR      Andre Roberts (Tiquan Underwood)WR      Damien Williams (Sky Dawson)WR      Dane Sanzenbacher (Russell Sheppard)TE        Andrew Quarless (Luke Stocker)OG        Jon Asamoah (Davin Joseph)OG/OT  Eben Britton (Gabe Carimi)P          Pat McAfee (Michael Koenen)S          Darrell Stuckey (Kelsey McCray)S          Major Wright (Bradley McDougald)CB        Brandon Ghee (Leonard Johnson)CB        Nolan Carroll (Anthony Gaitor)CB        Chris Cook  (Danny Gorrer)CB        Sam Shields (Michael Adams)LB        Perry Riley  (Adam Hayward)DT/DE  Mike Neal  (Matthew Masifilo)DT/DE  CJ Wilson (Derek Landy)DE        Robert Ayers  (Daniel Teo'Neisem) DT        Arthur Jones  (Gary Gibson)

The thing is most of those Bucs players they'd be replacing only play 5-10 snap per game so you'd be spending a ton of money on backups while still having problems with starters who play 40-50 snaps per game.
