T. Smith cook some more with robbers
Not a popular opinion and of course I hope to be wrong but I think T Smith sucks because he's always in between and never does his basic job in that position. He shows a lot of fire but doesn't back it up with real play.
This defense used to use nickel and dime DBs using robbers mid field to deny easy catches to TEs but this team is super focused on playing off coverage and defending the boundary for some unknown reason.
Prevent big plays on the boundary and downfield should not be a priority if you can not defend the middle of the field.
Good points, but this has been Bowles scheme since he got here. Look back in 2019 and 2020. Read my posts back then. It’s why I’ve said corners have an easy job for Bowles. For the most part, don’t get beat deep in cover 3 or 4 and make tackles. We got killed over the middle of the field at times during our Super Bowl run. Watch the Washington wild card game in 2020. This is Bowles scheme. At times players could cover it up, but most of the time they can’t. And run defense always comes first for Bowles. That’s why I say teams should throw on first down against us on every first down.
Prevent big plays on the boundary and downfield should not be a priority if you can not defend the middle of the field. Modern NFL offenses and game rules makes it too easy which is why the Tampa 2 and hard hitting safeties was phased out of popular use.
To Bowles stopping the run is a bigger priority than a pass mid field.
Another good take
It seems like Bowles defense is stuck between two concepts
