Thru history there have been times when a cause is ripe to bring to the public attention. For examples, slavery, the right for women to vote, for blacks to go to public school, for blacks to vote, political correctness. Now it would seem rape in college, especially rape by athletes is the next cause.Winston, a black male, and Kinsman, a blond white co-ed, is perfect for the "cause people. If Winston was found at fault by FSU or the State, the situation would loose its impact for those pushing the cause. It is the very fact that he wasn't charged that makes it the perfect situation for those that have an agenda. One of the early statements in the movie is that college athletes make up 2% of the college population yet commit 27% of the reported rapes.Kinsman, from Tampa, is featured and her part is very dramatic and emotional, very appealing to the viewer. It is not an accident that 2 female senators are at the initial pre-showing, after which showing the audience gives a standing ovation. It is not an accident that a third woman senator is at the second pre-showing. Now Barbara Boxer, US Senator from Calif, announces that a bill is being crafted which will hold Universities more accountable. The movie, Hunting Ground, will be shown in theaters around mid March. After the movie clears the first-run theaters, it will be shown on TV by CNN, probably in July or Aug, certainly before the 1st game in Sept. These "cause people" want the Bucs to draft Winston in the first round. Can you picture the "Firestorm"??Six or so busloads of female protesters descend on Raymond James for the first game, (in Ferguson, Mo only 2 to 10% of the protesters were from Ferguson). These protesters pass out leaflets saying, in effect, by going to the Bucs game, you are turning your back on Violence to Women. Doesn't make any difference if it is true or not. The media is invited and there is country-wide coverage of this protest.Publixs who has more women shoppers than men gets involved behind the scene with their endorsement money. And the Glazers have a real public relations problem on their hands. The Bucs franchise will probably be around long after Winston and Mariota are out of the NFL.In hiring Lovie, the Glazers said Lovie will bring "respectability" to the franchise, whatever that means. But when the movement against violence towards women collides with first round draft choice Winston, there will be anything but "respectability," for the Glazers. If Mariota is chosen and doesn't work out the Glazers can always say we needed a QB and we choose a players we could always be proud of.Only 1 team wins the Super Bowl. The other 31 also manage to do well. What is bad for business is a public firestorm.
