Haven't seen this mentioned, but many of us know Dominik tracks FA availability not for just after the current season ended, but into the future as well. Same with salary cap of other teams. Looking at the number of top-tier FA D'linemen THIS off-season, I'm sure Dominik was quite aware of that likelihood LAST off-season, so planned to go after this off-season's FA's, many of whom are better than Bennett. Hopefully our new GM follows through and we can forget Michael Bennett 8)
wrong
Because Dom likes seeing players he had contribute to playoff teams, and he was looking forward to unemployment?
All things equal, Bennett was out the door. He was not a toes on the line kind of guy. Nor was Wallace Gilberry or George Selvie. Or Blount. Or Talib. Or K2. All players, hate them or love them, who could've contributed to the 2013 Buccaneers. Think about it.
Funny I bet if Lovie told those guys TOL they would have

Without ever hearing it from any of the horses mouths, I think you may be spot on. The Bennett bros are freakish athletes. Kinda like Simeon Rice. March to the beat of a different drummer. Think Schiano viewed that as a threat to his locker room control so Bennett was expendable. If they had to do it all over again, I'm guessing that Dom and Schiano would have swallowed their pride and re-signed him. They banked on Bowers. Bowers failed.
To put Bennett in the same category as Blount, Talib, or K2 in terms of locker room malcontents or off field issues is ridiculous. And Selvie was never an issue at USF to my knowledge. I don't know much about Gilberry. Sometimes bad personnel decisions are made for whatever reason. But not every person let go was because of "toes on the line". While Blount, Talib, and K2 may or may not have contributed here this year, they are all bad guys to have in a young locker room. Better off without them
I think it's "toes on the line" all the way. Not in the sense that he was trouble in the locker room, but as SR was quick to point out he had a brash and quirky personality and not the grinder type that Schiano liked.

better off without them? We won 4 games. Coach and GM got fired.

What a crock of...!!!!
So help me get this logic. Dom was a moron for getting rid of a guy he brought here in the first place. The GM finds the players, the coach usually has most of the say about the 53. This move has Shiano all over it. Bennett was not a cancer just a bit outspoken. Too bad our coach did not have the ability to reach some of these guys. New England sure did coach blunt up. Whatever they said got through to him and he is much more polished than he used to be. K2, Talib, tenard were all problems and I think it was a good thing getting rid of them. If you read SRs fab 5 Dom should be taken to task for not taking a stand on some of these payers and being too accommodating to the coach. Why do you think Shiano was hyping bowers so much?
Schiano didn't run Bennett off. Trust me on that.
Bennett was not a cancer just a bit outspoken.
Do you know this for a fact? How much time, personally, did you spend in the Bucs' locker room during the 2012 season?
Everyone is acting like they are an insider. Get real. You have no clue why the FO made the decisions they did, just leave at that, enough with the I told you so BS. If you're so smart why don't you try working as the GM
It will be real interesting to see 1) IF Seattle gives Bennett a 'rich' contract going forward, and 2) if so, how long it it takes him to decide now he NEEDS that shoulder surgery... As Bennett was a productive player in 2012 UNDER SCHIANO, I have a real hard time thinking Schiano had anything to do with Dominik's not getting him re-signed. With no inside knowledge, I'd expect it was more Dominik thinking 2013 would be Bowers' breakout year, making Bennett expendable. And if Bowers failed, there was always the 2014 FA class. And here we are, waiting 'til March for FA... Maybe Cullen can get Bowers' light on upstairs, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it... 8)
