Asked my brother in law who is a rabid Pats fan and is actually a HS coach so he knows more than most about coaching schemes. This was his reply: well, it all started with McDaniels and Bill O'Brien but a lot of the concepts they do now is from chip kelly. Not so much the run game, but the passing concepts is a lot like chip's
Try Charlie Weis. Cmon man, Josh McDaniels learned under Weis.
just did some research on my own and its a evolved version of the Erhardt-Perkins offensive system which Weis learned from Parcells. And of coarse, Belichick was with Parcells at that time as well.
Who knew Ray Perkins was an offensive genius?

Ha yeah just read up on it. Still not sure which part is Perkins. Seems mostly Air Erhardt.
The question is - what is our quickest route to the playoffs and sustained success? Two of the teams in the division are offensive juggernauts (New Orleans and Atlanta). Carolina does it with defense and a power running game (plus Cam making plays here or there). They just went 12-4 and won a division championship. To me, the Bucs should strengthen that defense with a good defensive HC with NFL experience and then work on a power running offense. Lovie fits that bill to a tee.
I guess good is the main word, because we just attempted that.
Days of the dominant defense are over. You simply cannot shut down a moderately competent offense any longer. Ncincy is going nowhere in the playoff because their offense sucks, KC may win one but they aren't going to the show. SF and SEAmmay have good defenses, but they didn't ride those defenses, their offenses are effective and their QBs are game changers.

Interesting. It really is a "copycat" league, which extends into college too. Thanks for the info! Oh, and it looks like O'Brien is in down in Houston. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10224953/houston-texans-hire-bill-obrien-penn-state-nittany-lions

Ah, yes. Had forgotten the Weis connection with Parcells, then Belichick. It wasn't quite the same thing under Parcells as I recall, but I could see the roots coming out of it's concepts.
