NFL can force Raiders, seven others, to appear on “Hard Knocks”By Chase Ruttig - SI.comJan 20th, 2014 at 3:02 pmJul 30, 2013; Napa, CaOakland Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver supervises defensive backs Brandian Ross (29) , Taiwan Jones (22) , Mitchell White (39) and Charles Woodson (24) during drills at training camp at Napa Valley Marriott. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports As you may recall the NFL agreed on a new rule that would allow them to force a team to participate on HBO’s show Hard Knocks. The reality show goes through the in’s and out’s of an NFL training camp but teams have been reluctant to appear citing it as a distraction. That will no longer be possible as there are eight teams the league can force to participate for the 2014 season of the show. Teams who have the following criteria are omitted from being forced to appear: •A new head coach •Made the playoffs in the past two season •Have appeared on the show in the past decade That leaves eight teams, including the Raiders. Bears Bills Cardinals Giants Jaguars Raiders Rams Steelers This rule ensures that the NFL can’t have a situation where every team in the league refuses to appear on the show, and it leaves the opportunity for any team to willingly volunteer. Although it is highly unlikely any NFL franchise would go on the show if they did not have to, which gives the Raiders a 1/8 chance of being the team on HBO’s Hard Knocks. If they were to go on the show, they would be one of the more intriguing teams with a large batch of new faces as part of the team’s rebuild. Because of that transition, don’t expect the Raiders to be forced to appear on the show as the NFL is unlikely to force a Raiders team with so many new faces on the roster to appear on Hard Knocks. Even if you never know what can happen.
Thank god that the bucs aren't on that list. One less thing we have to worry about.

Didn't the Bucs almost get on Hard Knocks with the Raheem Regime?
Love to see the Bucs on hard knocks. And with all the trouble selling out home games that exposure couldn't hurt. The whole distraction argument is pretty overblown. Did it hurt the Bengals?

the op was offered but they declined. Thank god we avoided that distraction since we had a young team at the time. I mean, it might have caused us to lose ten straight in blow out fashion.
I wouldnt mind seeing the Steelers on HK...good organization (overall) and it would really piss them off.
I'm hoping for the Bears. Just for shots of emo jay and his wifey.
Steelers would be at the top of my list due to Tomlin being so entertaining. I think the Rams would be very interesting as well.
Raiders.
So... all a team has to do to keep from being on HK is to fire their coach every year? I'm starting to understand Cleveland...

Zing...
I want to see the Bills, get some insight into the level of disfunction
Would love to see the Bucs on Hard Knocks someday... if a team is distracted by a television crew, they got other problems.Small market teams would be more interesting.... and need the publicity.Scratch the Giants, Bears, Raiders and Steelers for that reason, although I'd like to see the Raiders dysfunction.Jaguars and Cardinals would be of NO interest to me.Bills, Rams, Raiders get my vote.
Why are playoff teams omitted? That seems like an odd rule. I would think big market name team like Giants has more appeal than JAX for example.
Seems like a good incentive to accumulate enough "meaningless" wins to slip into a wild card game...
