The frequently asked question is "Do we want Donovan Smith back?" Nobody seems to want to ask him what he wants.
Left Tackle is the biggest question mark of the off season player-wise. A huge impact position that we have no answer for right now. The elephant in the living room for the Bucs.
The crop of LTs in the draft- thin. Walter football lists Jawaan Taylor as their #1 OT and some of the others like Greg Williams (Underachiever) and Jonah Williams (projects to right tackle) - they are not raving about. It shouldn't be a huge deal to get a starting RT in the draft. Not so for LT. Things can change...I hope.
The cost for a FA upgrade over Smith-astronomical. I don't need to elaborate.
So golly gee maybe we should resign Donovan Smith after all! But as fans we better start changing our tune like yesterday. He has been getting a lot of grief from the fans this year, when the offense is actually pretty good. He has a lousy O-line coach. Next year there is going to be regime change.
He is going to factor that in to his decision when a Steelers or Eagles or Patriots come calling. Or maybe one or more of the many teams who need a LT decide to up the ante and go way beyond what the Bucs want to spend.
Why does he want to come back to a mess of a team with unappreciative fans? For all we know he's already gone. Good riddance! OK so what do we do now?
Somebody from PR or somewhere needs to ask Smith- Do you want to come back to the Bucs?
