Top 5 NFL quarterbacks under 25 by Robert Brewer 2h ago  Under1_Zpsz4Wrv7Xb.jpgVeteran quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers are among the best passers in the game today. They all possess laser-like accuracy, poise in the pocket, and the team success to warrant Hall of Fame consideration. Simply put, these supreme signal callers are the premiere attraction of the NFL.However, the young crop of NFL quarterbacks under the age of 25 also has their fair share of superstar potential as well. All five players in this group have developed their own unique style of play after highly successful collegiate careers. With plenty of NFL upside at each player’s disposal, let’s take a look at my list of top five quarterbacks under 25.5) Jameis Winston- Tampa Bay BuccaneersUnder2_Zps4G5Dcnpl.jpgMay 8, 2015; Tampa, FL Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston (3) works out for rookie mini camp at One Buc Place. Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsAfter capturing a Heisman Trophy and FBS national championship, Famous Jameis takes his talents to the NFL. As the first overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft, Winston’s hype is well warranted. The ex-Seminole star possesses a strong arm, pocket awareness, and the moxie of a future Pro Bowler. Although he has yet to throw an NFL pass, Winston has been getting rave reviews during organized team activities. At the tender age of 21, the sky is the limit for the Buccaneers’ newest quarterback. Time will tell whether or not Winston will be able to channel his immense talent into on-field success.4) Zach Mettenberger- Tennessee TitansUnder3_Zpsvbuo45Qb.jpgAug 15, 2014; New Orleans, LA Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger (7) throws against the New Orleans Saints during second quarter of a preseason game at Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY SportsAccording to NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus, some within the Titans’ organization feel that the 23-year-old Mettenberger could develop into a poor man’s version of Tom Brady. While Mettenberger compiled an 83.4 passer rating in his rookie season last year, Brady accumulated an 86.5 quarterback rating in 2001, his first full season as New England’s starter.Despite a promising rookie season from the former sixth round draft pick, it didn’t stop Tennessee from drafting reigning Heisman Trophy quarterback Marcus Mariota of Oregon.Mettenberger is the only player on this list who is not viewed as his team’s unquestioned starter heading into 2015. As a result, the former LSU standout will need to showcase every bit of his potential if he expects to beat out Mariota for Tennessee’s starting quarterback job this season.3) Blake Bortles- Jacksonville JaguarsUnder4_Zpskz6Jfq5Y.jpgDec 28, 2014; Houston, TX Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles (5) looks for an open receiver during the fourth quarter against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium. The Texans defeated the Jaguars 23-17. Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports Outside of former Pro-Bowler Daunte Culpepper, the University of Central Florida isn’t exactly known for producing NFL quarterbacking talent. As a result, Blake Bortles was vastly overlooked until the final game of his senior season with the UCF Knights. After posting 394 all-purpose yards and 4 all-purpose touchdowns in a Fiesta Bowl win, Bortles catapulted up the draft board. At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, Bortles was eventually selected third overall in the 2014 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. This strapping young quarterback has drawn comparisons to Pittsburgh Steelers’ great Ben Roethlisberger. In addition to having a cannon for an arm, Bortles also has the uncanny knack to make plays outside the pocket.Bortles showed flashes of brilliance in his rookie campaign last year, but also showed his inconsistencies protecting the football. If the Jaguars are going to return to prominence this year, their 23-year-old signal caller will have to cut down on the 17 interceptions he threw in 2014.2) Teddy Bridgewater- Minnesota VikingsUnder5_Zps969Kimom.jpgSep 28, 2014; Minneapolis, MNMinnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (5) acknowledges the crowd after beating the Atlanta Falcons at TCF Bank Stadium. The Vikings win 41-28. Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY SportsThrowing for nearly 10,000 yards in his three year career as a Louisville Cardinal, Teddy Bridgewater enjoyed immense success at the college level. However, a shaky pro day workout caused Teddy Bridgewater’s stock to plummet in the 2014 NFL draft. Once viewed as possibly the best quarterback in his draft class, Bridgewater fell to the last pick in the first round of the NFL draft. However, the 22-year-old Bridgewater quieted the doubters and bounced back to have a very productive rookie season. Bridgewater’s remarkable consistency last year was evident by his 64.4 percent completion percentage. In addition to posting solid numbers that included 2,919 passing yards and 14 touchdown passes, Bridgewater provided desperately needed stability to a Vikings franchise that was without Pro-Bowl running back Adrian Peterson for almost the entire season.1) Derek Carr- Oakland RaidersUnder6_Zpsfp5Cs0We.jpgDec 28, 2014; Denver, CO Oakland Raiders center Stefen Wisniewski (61) and quarterback Derek Carr (4) in the second quarter against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Broncos defeated the Raiders 47-14. Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY SportsVeteran quarterback Matt Schaub was ahead of Carr on Oakland’s depth chart to start the 2014 season. Therefore, little was expected from the second round draft choice from Fresno State in his rookie season. However, Carr was able to beat out Schaub for the starting job during the preseason and ended up starting all 16 games for the Raiders. Derek Carr went on to lead all rookies in passing yards (3,270) and touchdown passes (21) last year.Despite Carr’s unexpected progress, the Oakland Raiders started off the 2014 season with a miserable 0-10 record. It was during this brutal losing streak that I thought Carr competed with an incredible amount of will power and intestinal fortitude.Getting coached up by older brother and former number one overall pick David Carr has certainly helped Derek in his young career. At the ripe old age of 24, Derek Carr is my number one quarterback under the age of 25.link
