4th place; Josh Johnson. OK whatever. He's there.
3rd place: Nick Foles. He's a name you know. He's a guy who would give you some kind of chance to win a game if he was in there. But does he want to be a 3rd string QB at this point of his career? I don't think so. Still, I'll rate him 3rd choice just because he doesn't make me want to throw up.
2nd Place: Chase Daniels. OK. If you want a guy who's been there and done that, albeit not particularly well, then I guess you would be OK with Daniels. God help us if he's in an actual game, but I guess he'll do if he's a good locker room influence.
1st Place: Jake Luton. Recently released by the Saints from his futures contract because they drafted a QB to go along with their two veteran QBs. Luton is not a grizzled veteran himself, but he has started games in the NFL. He has bounced around getting some frequent flyer miles for three years and four teams rosters or practice squads. The Jaguars brought him back a second time, so that's something. One of those teams he spent time with was the Seattle Seahawks, so there's familiarity with the OC. So he's had experience but isn't a washed up veteran. Teams keep giving him a try. Sometimes that experience leads to something. He'll be happy if he makes a team at all, so he won't cause locker room strife, and again he has familiarity with the OC. That's why I'm picking him to be chosen for that coveted spot of #3 Bucs QB.
Who not to sign: Mason Rudolph. The Steelers didn't want him. He's immature. Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, Teddy Bridgewater would all be too much of a distraction because some would want them to start. No. John Wolford, Bryce Perkins even less experience than Luton. No. Joe Flacco- Yikes!
Don’t count out the 10 year front runner Ryan Griffin
PR has stated that Ryan Griffin won't be back. They seem to have inside information about that. It's just my guess that it's because the team wants to let the new OC bring in his own guys and not have a guy who was basically an Arians/Leftwich holdover coach hanging around.Don’t count out the 10 year front runner Ryan Griffin
i was trying to be funny lol
guy shouldn't be in the NFL and his career was 7 years too long. Impressed how long he lasted!
given our cap situation, i'd guess it would be someone on vet min deal
Yes of course, but given the choices Griffin as 3rd string QB isn't really much worse than the other choices. If it weren't for the comments made by SR I would actually consider him one of the possible choices. That's how barren the landscape is when it comes to possible FA QBs.i was trying to be funny lol

By the end of the season the winner of the 3rd string QB will be Kyle Trask.
a 3rd string role on a vet minimum deal for a team projected to win 5-7 games... you must check at least one box to convince the Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, Teddy Bridgewater and Nick Foles.
the list should only include Joe Flacco, Chase Daniel, Josh Johnson, Mason Rudolph, Sean Mannion, John Wolford, Bryce Perkins, Jake Luton, an USFL/XFL QB (Alex McGough?)... or Cam Newton. 😱
with no good option available and 4 QB needed for training camp, i'll prefer to sign 2 young passer fighting for the 4th spot on the ps and wait September to claim off waivers a better 3rd string QB!
i have no problem with a vet holding the clipboard when he's the backup QB, but the 3rd string guy it's ridiculous... you want experience in the QB room? why not try to have a QB coach doing his job?
It'll be Trask. If we signed Foles he'd move up to #2 (yes I'm trolling)
Not sure why the Bucs want to sign a "veteran" third stringer. Go obtain a highly athletic third stringer that can move with their feet and be an asset for the scout team anyways. Canales system may end up having a lot of bootlegs and play action to it which requires a QB with good feet.
looks like they are going with John Wolford
put it this way, we are in trouble if we get to our 3rd option....
i mean hell, a non Bucs fan will tell you we are in trouble now haha
Wolford is fine as third stringer. The real battle is between Trask and Mayfield.
Good choice I guess, as good as any of the available options. I said he didn't have much experience, but I guess he has more experience than I thought, as much as Luton. I figured he'd be returning back to his previous team, the Rams. The Rams opted to go with Brett Rypien as their #2 and drafted Stetson Bennett. Wolford already had experience with the Rams, but was passed over for Rypien who was cast off by Denver. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in Wolford.
The Rams are looking for a young guy to take the reins over soon enough which is why they are moving on from Wolford. They want to kick the tires with Rypien and Bennett like the Bucs are doing with Trask and Mayfield.
Bringing in Wolford also confirms that the Bucs offense will feature a lot of McVay/Waldron motions along with the zone blocking scheme.
