Glazers are paying to win January 7th, 2014 By Pat Yasinskas | ESPN.com Glazers_Zps20080Bda.jpg TAMPA, Fla. -- There's an old myth in the Tampa Bay area that has had a few more holes poked in it in recent days. It's the one about how the Glazer family, which owns the team, is cheap. It's the one that says the Glazers would rather save money than win football games. I've always disagreed with the conspiracy theories that so many Buccaneers fans subscribe to about the Glazers. But now, I think it's more apparent than ever that the first priority for the Glazers is to win games. They showed that by firing Greg Schiano, who had three years on his contract. Reportedly, Schiano's contract averaged $3 million a year. The Bucs are still paying Schiano, but they didn't want to put up with losing anymore. That's why they went out and paid even more money to replace Schiano with Lovie Smith. Reportedly, Smith's four-year contract (with an option for a fifth year) is worth around $22 million. When you think about that, it's impossible to call the Glazers cheap. And let's take it one step further. Let's think about the millions they've spent to get Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks, Dashon Goldson and Darrelle Revis over the last two years. The Glazers might not be perfect owners. But don't call them cheap.

I will agree that before ManU, and during the last couple seasons, that they do/did want to win no matter the cost. However, once they started the ManU thing, and the economy took a hit, there is little doubt that they went el cheapo on us for a few years. I'm impressed they are actually starting to not only spend money, but do the right moves for this franchise. I hope they keep it up.
