What people don't seem to grasp about Mariota is the reality of the scheme that he ran in college. Sure the numbers look pretty on the surface, but when you go deeper down the rabbit hole you begin to see the numbers don't tell the full story. First of all Org's system is built around running the same play or "concept" if you will over and over again at blistering pace, varying the read based on the number of defenders in the box. One popular one they like is a outside screen play, ran off a read option. If there is 8+ in the box, they throw the screen, if there is 7 or less they run the read option, if they feel the defense cheating they have a blocker on the screen slip deep. They loved this play soooo much they ran it 51 times against FSU out of their 81 plays...Just think about that for a second, ponder what that means. Most of the plays in Oregon's scheme are the same type of "concept" ideas where Mariota doesn't have to read anything other than alignment. His NFL style reads are few and far between on tape in fact he only saw 11 looks that would be considered pro concepts in the Semi final..In fact I've seen these reads charted out for his entire season. He completed an alarming 53% of those throws, that's awful. His leadership is non existent, I have seen walls with more charisma. He has the pocket awareness of a potato, often times voiding clean pockets and scrambling towards defenders. When he is trailing and teams are forcing him to beat them from the pocket he presses (See Ohio State and Arizona) he forces the issue with his legs anyways often resulting in big hits, and lost plays. Another thing I found shocking is in the NTG Ohio State dared Mariota to beat them with his arm. They signaled out this great QB prospect and tremendous talent as the biggest weakness in Oregon's seemingly unstoppable offense. How that doesn't set off red flags everywhere I don't understand. Finally if Mariota truly was the guy, if he was an amazing talent. The Eagles would have come and got him. Instead Chip Kelly elected to trade his movable pieces for the likes of Kiko Alonso and Sam Bradford. Then laughed about the idea of trading up for him. The biggest secret in the draft is that nobody wants Mariota, you will hear his name used for smoke-screening, but I am expecting a huge slide down the board come draft day, if I had a pick I wouldn't touch him well into 3rd round.Watch the NTG and the Arizona game and see how well he plays when his receivers get jammed, and they contain him on the outside
