Reflecting on our recent seasons, it's hard to ignore the patterns:
- 2022: We started 1-5 after Week 2.
- 2023: We were 1-6 after Week 4.
- 2024: We're currently 1-5 since Week 4.
These outcomes can't just be chalked up to bad luck; there's a significant coaching issue at play. Today’s game shouldn’t have been as close as it was, especially considering their kicker missed several makeable field goals. Ultimately, that game should have been 29-17 on our final drive.
Our defense is horrible and even though our offense sped up the game by running the ball and running clock, it wasn't enough.
I'm honestly at a loss for words and feeling pretty defeated.
Todd and this defense are going to give up at least 24 points next Sunday.

agree with most things you post including the post above
not sure I get “defeated” though because Bowles is a temporary part of the team and the team has some good pieces, it’s just that many of them are injured
if Wirfs stays on we likely win
if EITHER Godwin or Evans is on we probably win
Even without this 3 offensive players we probably win if our main CBs or ILBs are healthy
i definitely get the coaching frustration BUT we lost today for lack of horses
Totally get your point though BUT just offering another way to think of it:
a heavily depleted Bucs team just took the Chiefs and the 49ers to a cliff. The offense had such little talent that Mayfiekd was throwing while stiff arming Boza. The depleted Bucs defense that has been giving 30+ only gave up 23? To a 49ers team coming off a bye and with CMC back?
no moral victories but at a minimum the team is close, it’s just heavily injured
@bucsbits - I agree that the offense is doing great things while being down players due to injury. But our defense isn’t depleted besides Dean. Our defense is just bad.

Well not really.
Our defense is bad.
it’s bad patty because of the scheme and partly because of needs oriented win now drafting
JPP and Barret are now JTS and Diaby (a 2nd year guy)
our LB crew is 2024 LVD and our former 3rd string LB. His BACKUP (Russell) blew coverage on one TD today
our SS position is UNEXPECTEDLY as weak as last year, at least in pas coverage and our one CB is a nobody (burned today multiple times) and our go to Nickel (out today) is a rookie
in todays game you can see all of those lesser players DIRECTLY responsible for non-stops and scores.
Not absolving Bowles. Just pointing out difference
Last year’s defense was the mirage. Bad defense that just did well in the RZ. This years defense is a backup version of that defense, for the most part
Our defense is bad because of Bowles. Nobody plays above their grade. The scheme is atrocious especially on third down.
The rotation and personnel is awful.
Bad in big moments.
Bend AND break - top 3 worst in yards and top 5 worst in points. Top 3 worst vs the pass.
Combine that Bowles inexcusable clock management and game management.
Without Coen and Baker this would be a 2 win team

Last year's D was a mirage because it got right playing the awful NFCS QB's and got ripped playng real QB's.
That's what's disappointing is how the Bucs had a chance to win both games against a couple of the best teams in the league but they came up empty. They had a chance to beat Atlanta but came up empty. Some teams know how to finish games and get the win. The problem with Bowles is that the Bucs have a pretty decent team thatcan win games and they are coming up on the wrong side of it. It's not that they aren't competing. It's that they aren't winning. I'm not saying they should win every game, but they're 4-6 and they shouldn't be. The buck stops with the coach.Totally get your point though BUT just offering another way to think of it:

This team plays like Bowles identity.
This team just as easily could of been 3-1 in their last 4, instead of 0-4.
i think it’s a mix of bad luck, bad injuries, and bad coaching

SPOT ON
Tough to accept any loss, but IF you actually accept where the Bucs are because of injuries - "Mayfield threw 29 passes. Only 11 were caught by wide receivers"- it was a really gutsy performance. They just came up short, even with MASSIVE help from the 49ers defense.
When Ryan Miller is your top receiver you're in trouble. When he's the top receiver with ONE catch . .. you played the whole game with half an offense
we scored as many points as we did against the LIONS with Godwin and Evans

he's so pathetic i could see them doing a team building event during the bye and Vita Vea injuries himself bowling
