So, it seems like the Bucs front office has positioned this team to have a special season, too
Agreed.
No more excuses.
Team needs to make a conference championship game appearance (or more).
So, it seems like the Bucs front office has positioned this team to have a special season
Agreed and with several big questions looming. Extend Bowles/Fire Bowles? Evens contract or retire? Mayfield contract?
The front office is doing what it should, which is putting everyone in a position to succeed while also building behind everyone eg Egbuka
This was in the news today about Mayfield and his contract:
"The three-year contract that Mayfield signed with the Bucs last offseason pays him $33.3 million per year. He has $30 million coming this season and $40 million in 2026, though none of the 2026 money is guaranteed. The deal is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but consider that the top of the QB market right now is $55 to $60 million per year. Consider also that no quarterback in the NFL has thrown more touchdown passes over the past two regular seasons than Mayfield (69)."
Mayfield was once on a one year, $4 million contract and "should have been beaten out by Trask." He's come a LONG way and has had great timing given the way the QB market is going. Remember he was going to handicap the Bucs with a $40 million contract, turned out to be $33ish . . now he's likely to make $60 if he can stay on his current path.
Licht/Bowles have done a very good job betting on some players/coaches, from Mayfield's one year deal, to two OCs turned head coaches, a 4th rounder for Irving, to hopefully Reddick this season. And along the way they have won when mamny teams would be in rebuild time, all the while building the kind of culture that has a player like Godwin JR choosing to stay FOR LESS.
Pretty impressive. Still have to deliver this season. Pretty pivotal season.
speaking of culture . . daily does of player speak about the HC
“He’s a great coach, a great father figure as well,” Kancey said. “He’s a guy you want to run through a wall for. And I know a lot of people say that, but I really mean it. He’s a players’ coach. If you have something to say, or you see something on the field, he will hear you out. He’s creative when it comes to these blitzes and these stunts, and it’s fun. It’s fun to have him as a coach and go out there and execute those plays for him.”

It's great the players like him and that's certainly been his strength in keeping he team together and not collapsing with losing streaks.
But we've debated this to death... He needs to perform better in 2 key areas this season:
Get off the field more consistently (preferably via 3 and outs).
Better clock management and situational football.
Yes its still a results-oriented job so this is a season that could end his tenure or result in an extension, both depending on the results on the field.
Bowles has been a good coach for us. We need to be more dialed in at times but that is every coach in the league. McVay/Reid/Payton/Tomlin included.

The offense was a disaster situationally.

So was the defense.
But, let's give you some time to cherry pick some more bullshit stats. You've done plenty for Tucker.
Take your time, ma'am.
