Last year everyone was saying that Ballerz was possibly a top 15 QB. If you look at the most common stats, he's wayyyy beyond that. First, I believe in comp %, second in yards, second in TDs, top 5 in QBR.
At this point, this year, he IS a top 5 QB, possibly top 3. Hes had some clunkers to be sure, and Coen is a geni'ass, but lets be happy that we got a guy, our guy...finally.
Well, last year, he put up top 10 numbers but many of us discounted it with (a) it's one year and the guy's been a roller coaster previously (b) injuries to previous top guys like Cousins, Rodgers, Burrow, etc. So many of us, including this Baker bro had him at 15.
He's clearly taken the next step and is in the top 10 now of which one might argue top 5. I'd say top 4 are Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, and Burrow in no particularly order.
Then i dont know, Golf and Mayfield at 5 and 6? Who ranks better than them? Darnold is up there but much like Mayfield last year, let me see it again.
I am a Mayfield fan, but I am not sure he's in the same class as those top 5 QBs. He seems to have th arm talent, but not sure his decision-making is on their level, especially not when you think of someone like Burrows
If we are talking just this year he's in the 5-7 range.
If we are factoring in the past few years or QBs with a larger body of successful work he's top 10.
Mahomes for examples hasn't been great this year but he's still the best QB in football until someone dethrones him.
Baker has ascended past QBs like Love, Tua, Purdy, Geno, Kyler, and Stafford but he's still not in that top echelon due to his turnovers.

i will be pissed if they win again this year. Mahomes is a likeable guy but damn man, dont past our boy Tom before your 30

agreed
As Josh Q points out, Mayfield makes some throws that are off the charts.
He also has period where he seems to lose focus.
But overall he has been a hell of a find for the Bucs
he improved a lot, if he continues that way, hopefully with coen, he might be seen as one of the best in the league
do not forget it, he is in his prime now and could play at that level for at least another 5 years. that sounds really good! I can’t remember when I was this optimistic about our QB. probably long time ago in old sombrero with doug under center (just to get dissapointed soon after)
Was thinking of posting similar topic last night - but I got tired and went to bed. Sometime this morning chuckled hearing a conversation making the case that while Baker does have tremendous passing STATS… in actuality he’s just benefited from Coen’s reliance on low air yards/high-percentage passing - with a lot of YAK.
That has definitely been a contributor, and likely the justification NOT to have Baker’s name even mentioned with the likes of MVP-worthy guys like Allen, Lamar, and Joe Cool …but for Mayfield to have another great season with his second “hot” OC, and losing his top receivers for a stretch this season - the guy has just been gritty & reliable.
Sure there are lost focus periods, followerd by “omg how’d he do that” moments. Still a guy I wouldn’t hesitate to hand him the ball with 2 minutes on the clock, down by 3…
Great season by Baker Mayfield we wouldn’t be here without him.

Definitely. What a find by . . . . . Bowles!

lol remember when some posters called us Baker bros last year. So dead wrong on their take, yet, they will still claim to be right to this day...if you dont believe me, watch the ensuing post.

Stafford's better than both of them, and it's not that close. Stafford should be considered a top-5 QB. But after that, especially considering this season, Baker should be there at 6 or 7. And this is just his first season in this offense with this OC, just his second with most of these teammates. Yeah, his ceiling isn't a lot higher than what we're seeing this year, but what we're seeing is a 70+% completion%, 4,500+yd 40+ TD QB. So if his ceiling is only 10% higher than what he ends up producing this year, that's a hell of a ceiling.

Every QB benefits from YAC and play calling

Stafford is top 10 in arm talent or even top 5 but he's well past his prime. His stats this year are pretty bad. He plays a ton of screen game to Puka and Kyren.
For me, Stafford isn't even top 12 this year.
20 TDs, 8 picks, 3700 yards, and he's immobile.
Hell that might not even be top 18.
Eye ball test says he can still sling it but he needs a clean pocket.

He was also missing 3 starting OLs this season until about 3-4 weeks ago. Both Puka and Kupp were injured for several weeks earlier in the season as well. And he's more moble than you think. He had some great scrambles earlier this season, that Goff couldn't dream of pulling off.
But regardless, Stafford has a significantly higher football IQ and better command than either Goff or Baker, and then he has a better arm than either.
