Pros:

1. Saving 11 million in cap space this season.

Desean has value, but is it worth 11 million? That money would be better utilized in signing another player after the preseason whether it be a surprise veteran cut or a trade, as we did for Logan Mankins a few years back. We could also use that money to get an early extension to Marpet, Kwon, or Donovan.

2. Giving the future their opportunity.

Desean is not a long term fixture in Tampa Bay. Chris Godwin is. Adam Humphries should be. And there's at least potential that Justin Watson or Bobo Wilson could be as well. With only 5 presumed roster spots dedicated to receivers, it could be beneficial in the long run to trade Jackson, allowing the young guys to stick around without risking them on the practice squad.

3. Return on investment.

Desean had a rather disappointing season last year. He ranked 44th overall out of all starting WRs in 2017, according to PFF. Certainly not what we envisioned when he signed. Given that Godwin will likely start at WR2 and Humphries is a very solid slot receiver, Jackson is a luxury piece with no true home. If he stays, he is a rotational receiver who will come in to spell the top 3.
If you want to get a return on your investment, it would be ideal to trade Jackson, and his 11 million dollar cap hit for an equally valued player, at an equal or lesser price tag, that could provide greater value to the team than a WR4. Maybe a RB to take Barber's spot, sharing the carries with Rojo. Perhaps a starting caliber RG?

Cons:

1. Are there any?
