He made that statement as a definitive one. Banging his chest and yelling “look it up”.

Did you ever consider that he was messing with you? Ya know, playing on the "football acumen" stuff?

Do you really want to bring in a new system and have to start over again?

Of course not.

I’d love to see Canales in his 2nd year without Bowles influence and with a QB who actually has upside.

Unforunately, when Todd gets canned next month, Dave will most likely be part of the firings.

exactly.

Thats what really sucks about this circumstance.

I think  Babdabing maybe made a joke about Raheem Morris

What's lost in all of this is the incredible cap value we can get out of Trask next year if he's just decent. Having the starting QB only holding a $1.8M cap can reset our cap back to a healthy status and allow Evans, Winfield and David all back next year. If they hand Mayfield a Geno Smith/Jimmy G/Daniel Jones deal and he plays like this then we're absolutely screwed.

The competition was never real.

Good grief. That sounds like a Noles fan saying Winston wasn’t to blame for all those interceptions.

of course Trask had a chance to beat him out

remind me again about how Gator love has nothing to do with this. tw

Did he not get a chance to start a preseason game?  Did he not get the reps in training camp?  They may have had a preconceived notion that Mayfield would win, but they still gave Trask a chance to do stuff.  Trask's main problem is he never caught a break from a QB being injured.  Brady never missed a game.  Now Mayfield hasn't missed a game.  Usually that's how a QB gets his chance.  But they do know a lot about Trask from the years of practices and preseasons.  And it's not all bad. He did OK this preseason. But if he was the next Brett Favre we'd know it.  Some posters are pretending that he's a total unknown and that's just not the case.

This is the thing ^^^^

Its completely normal and expected that Trask would have to BEAT OUT Mayfield.  Tie absolutely going to Mayfield because of his experience and stature, especially with a defensive coach fighting for his life and an OC who helped turnaround Geno Smith.

Buy if Trask is CLEARLY better he takes over ..

The weird thing about these long running conversations is the focus on Mayfield when the team has other issues. The team was a LOSER with the GOAT at the helm so just changing OC and Mayfield was NOT going to fix everything.

Name a DOMINANT team with big liabilities at MLB (captain of the defense rally) and CB and ONE Safety and really no effective DEs? Add to that incosnistent rookies at important 3rd receiver, terrible run game, terrible . . i mean really terrible blocking from the TE position.

This was and is an INCOMPLETE team

This is interesting.

MLB- 5th overall pick

CB- 2nd round picks with second contracts

Safety? Let Edwards and Whitehead walk for cheap

DEs? Well Barrett was given a massive contract and JTS was pick #32 and Hall was pick #33.

It's almost as if the problem is the guy building the roster.

But most assume that the best thing is to look for an offensive HC based on the idea that the Bucs defense is fine.  Now it's not fine.

The FO needs to (and most likely will) hire an offensive-minded HC.

That’s the direction this league has been going for years.

Look at the most recent SB winning head coaches:

Reid, McVay, Arians, Reid

We’d be absolutely fucked for the next 3-5 years if that were to happen.

Fortunately, it won’t.

Except some of those contracts are part of the Brady "keep the band together" plan so . . . you'll have to find different pins for the Licht voodoo doll

And the Glazers will be predisposed to that idea as well.  Their MO is to go 180 degrees

DEs?

SR Fab 1 - "Finding another safety, a starting inside linebacker, a starting-caliber pass rusher, possibly to replace Shaq Barrett, a starting safety and perhaps a cornerback are among the Bucs’ other needs, followed by an upgrade at tight end."

We only need a safety because he let Whitehead walk, for literally no reason. He was the perfect Buccaneer and literally sacrificed his body to win a chip.

Funny how two years ago I was an idiot for saying we need to trade Barrett, now he needs to be replaced.

The smart thing to do is draft a QB so you have a quality QB for rookie pay scale instead of spending $30 mil a year for an average QB who will never take you anywhere. Then the Bucs can either sign Mayfield to a bridge deal for say $10 mil per year for two years with half the money guaranteed so they can dump him after a year if they want.  I think that's what the market will be for him.  Or they can really go bargain basement and start the rookie right away and keep Trask and/or Wolford as the backups.  That's leaving a lot of money out there to use at other positions we need.

They won't pay the big dollars to Mayfield.  He's not worth that.  He won't get any better offers on the market than that IMO.  The rookies coming in will flood the market and decrease the desperation factor for those mediocre QBs.  There's only 32 spots.  A good 4 or 5 of those might be rookies stepping right in and starting.

The whole getting Baker thing was not very forward thinking. This was the perfect year to see if Trask could be a starter while also determining where the holes were still, yet still have enough talent on the roster so that if Trask was at least a competent starter we'd have a shot at the playoffs. Instead they brought Mayfield in like this was just a reload and go, despite the fact we clearly had at least a few holes and that if Baker did prove out, he'd suck up all the cap room in 2024. It was just a dumb move all around. A more involved owner likely would have put the kibosh on this crap from the get go, but the Glazers tend to always hand their staffs with the rope from which they can either win or hang themselves by.

Not sure what you're talking about. Most of those X posts are Baker leg humpers.
