But QB isn't a problem that needs to be solved.
You legit have zero idea of what you’re talking about if you can make that statement with a straight face.
If Baker plays like this next week, we'll get killed. He seems to be getting worse by the game. If it were me, we'd never be in this spot as Trask would have started game 1 as it was better for the long-term health of the franchise. But yes, I'd start Trask over Baker because Baker keeps screwing up. His performance and his sudden rash of turnovers warrant the move.
Bowles wont play Trask even if the Bucs lose the next 3 weeks. Bowles probably wants to sign Baker Mayfield to a 3 year 75 million contract.
Ha, piling on. Pretty sure Bowles would play any QB he thought would win. He’s trying to save his job.
Mayfield is not great, but it should be pretty obvious that there’s real risk to Bowles in switching from the teams veteran FA QB to any unknown, especially when the Bucs just won. Bowles isn’t coaching to help the Bucs figure what they have in a 2nd round pick.
So the real question is, if Baker plays like he's been playing and the Bucs lose this week, does Trask get the last 4? Or does Bowles keep playing Mayfield because we'd still be mathematically alive, even though dead in reality.
Mayfield is not the problem on this team.
He is one of the problems and not a solution
agree that it’s weird the way many fans seem to think of this team. Yesterdays game - like a few of our losses - was as much about the defense’s failings (and lack of depth) as anything.
Or does Bowles keep playing because we'd still be mathematically alive, even though dead in reality.
Unfortunately, it’ll be this.

great question.
we are going to win against the Falcons (lol) but if we were to lose to the Falcons when would the Bucs be dead mathematically?

It actually wouldn't be the worst because I think GB will put us in a blender regardless if it's Mayfield or Trask. Mayfield will stink it up in GB, we would be officially out of the playoffs and he would have no choice but to start Trask.
So Mayfield steps aside for Trask if we lose the next two

Agreed.
But, would other players have mailed it in at that point?
So true that SF's supporting cast is way better than the Bucs', but the QB still has to make plays and execute the throws. Purdy is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Mayfield in terms of most everything a QB does. Maybe Mayfield's only edges are veteran presence and moxie.
As for Bowles, Mayfield, and Trask, I said it a few weeks ago. Bowles has hitched his wagon to Mayfield. I believe the only way Trask sees the field is if Mayfield is unable to play due to injury, sickness, or personal leave. If Bowles were to bench Mayfield, it's essentially saying that he made the wrong decision by going with Mayfield. And he won't do that while he's trying to save his job. The reality is that it's already too late for that IMHO.

49ers went 0-3 when Trent Williams and Deebo were injured.

If Bucs lose the next two that puts them at 5-9 and 4-6 in conference, losing tie breakers to Atlanta and GB....
In this scenario if the Falcons beat the Panthers after us we're eliminated from NFC South. If Packers beat the Giants before us they would clinch being ahead of us for wild card. Leaving the only way in being the #7 seed. Depends on what LAR, Minnesota and SEA do. I can totally see Bowles at the podium at 5-9 with a 0.00001% chance of making the playoffs talking about how Baker gives the team the best chance to win.
This really gets down to the heart of the matter. A bold, aggressive Head Coach would look at Mayfield, say he's not the guy, and move to the next guy and see if he is. That type of coach realizes you're not going to get any better when you're starting QB has hit his ceiling and it was meh. That guy makes a change. Bowels is the type that doesn't care that it's not working, because he's afraid of what might happen if he changes. This is why it's taken him so long to make changes at other positions. Unfortunately, the QB position is one that gets all the headlines and the decision to go with him at the start of the season tied Baker to him, and he just will not make the change. Now, if Baker goes down, and Trask comes in and lights it up, he'll do what he's done with other positions and keep playing him.
This is why we are stuck watching some of the worst QB play we've seen, mixed with occasional solid play. All I can say is...It's a Bucs life!

come on

Just look what the Falcons did. They went to Heinicke when they thought Ridder wasn't getting it done. Of course, it was worse, so they went back to Ridder, but now they are in the lead in the division. Standing pat is just dumb when you went into the season knowing what Mayfield was coming in. You thought you could get a better product out of him, but failed, because he's just not good enough. Should have gone with Trask this past Sunday and let Mayfield rest his ankle as he came up limping in the game again. But, Todd let another chance go by. At the end of the day, it will likely cost him his job.
