Something that has been bothering me is the Colts decision to let Manning leave. I mean seriously, how often does a team get to have two franchise quarterbacks fall into their laps like Indy. A freak injury to Manning and the Colts crash and burn. They could’ve drafted Luck and let him sit behind one of the best ever to play the game. He would’ve been an awesome backup. Plus, he wouldn’t be taking as much ofa beating as he has for the past few years. Manning makes his receivers better. The Colts could’ve focused on shoring up the OL and DL, I would’ve used first and second round picks going to OL. Not only are you investing in protecting your future but you would be protecting your present with Manning. It’s not like Manning is Brett Favre, he was more than willing to teach Brock. What makes you think he couldn’t have done that for Luck. By the time Luck is handed the torch, he could’ve had a beast OL and a defense on the rise. (What would you do if you were in the Colts situation in 2012?)Overall what I’m getting at is that I’m tired of seeing fans being so short sighted when it comes to the future of the team. Talk about missing out on big time free agents frustrate me. Would it be nice to have a big name signing? Yeah if the right one. Most times the big time free agents don’t work out plus maybe there’s someone in the draft that has better upside or someone in the following free agent class is a better option. That’s why I’m not opposed to 1 year contracts. I would prefer at least 2 years for continuity sake but the idea is that with a strict salary cap team friendly contracts are needed in case a better cheaper option is available the next year.I love it when I hear Licht talk about a three-year plan. Building a contender is a fluid process. In my opinion you have to have all the free agent classes for up to five years in advance, since the biggest contracts usually last up to five years, and adjust the board as things happen. See who compliments the team the best while fitting the window of when you have to play your own players. For me the best case scenario is being able to sign players you drafted and using free agency as a compliment. Free agents being used as short term option until your next draft class is ready. Having over 30 plus million in salary cap every year doesn’t mean you’re doing well. Typically, teams with the most to spend, are at the bottom and are forced to overspend. You should have enough cap space to sign your rookie class and fill out your roster with depth. I love the front office aspect, behind the scenes aspect of football but can’t stand people complaining the process. Until you find the right coach and gm, a team will forever be in the rebuilding process. When you do find that right combo, the Licht at the end of the tunnel just gets brighter and brighter!
