Not necessarily losing, but it will make contracts/extensions more difficult.I get trying to add a young stud, but I think that trade would make it tough for re-signing of some upcoming key personnel
Which "key personnel" would we be looking at potentially losing if we made this trade?
But, for who?
Luke just got an extension, but Mike Evans & Zyon McCollum will be due (maybe Mayfield)?
Was the $38m in cap space for 2026 calculated before Hassan Reddick’s signing?
Guess there isn’t as much as I initially thought!
All the more reason to get one done before the Nov 4th deadline!

Zyon signed an extension prior to the season.
Mike is most likely retiring if he doesn't hit 1K.
We can 100% make it work from a cap perspective.
Forgot about Zyon!
Trey Hendrickson’s 4 sacks thus far has my eyes on him. Giants may think their resurgence is sustainable - so likely may not be as interested in a 3rd for Thibideaux?
Bengals are a nutty organization though. They don’t want to commit to Hendrickson, but value him (earlier) for more than a 3rd round pick.
Maybe send them Hassan and a 3rd rounder?
I don't value Hedrickson like I value Crosby.
Age and play making Crosby is far superior
And he’s far more expensive, more expensive than our MVP QB, and a high draft pick but if you’re needing an edge, he’s the one!I don't value Hedrickson like I value Crosby.
Age and play making Crosby is far superior
We should target one of the top edges, but just not sure Licht would pull the trigger on that level of trade.

Yep.
Obviously, Trey would come cheaper.
just not sure Licht would pull the trigger on that level of trade.
Hard to imagine if we keep winning like we are
It would be for the post-season, and solidify this defense for sometime, but 2 premium draft picks and that contract would be hard to imagine Licht signing off on that one.just not sure Licht would pull the trigger on that level of trade.

and their issues are on run defense anyways.
Their pass defense is ranked #32 in yards given up and #29 in passing scores allowed.
So, their issues are VERY MUCH with their passing defense.
It's god awful.
Their secondary is banged up which is why teams continue to run the ball despite this because their run defense is worse then their pass defense.
Nope.
No pass rusher is worth that. I know people are making fun of Jerry Jones but the Cowboys are still competitive and their issues are on run defense anyways. Their secondary is banged up and will be back to normal at some point in the season. Their offense is very good and they now have freed up cap space to do more with extensions this year and next or even bring in more free agents.
You're highlighting the struggle between "we could win a SB now" and maintaining a good competitive team over time.
Thats why its an interesting question.
Well the Cowboys were just whipped in the trenches on the ground against the Panthers so having an ace pass rusher wasn't going to help them. Their run defense stinks worse than their pass defense.
Jones may be annoying in many ways as an owner, but it is hard to win the league if you can't stop the run on defense. Bucs pass defense isn't anything to write home about but they are still winning and the Cowboys are hanging around.
But there is one thing different between the Bucs defense and Cowboys defense and that is run defense. It still matters a lot in this league.

Their run defense is bad. No doubt.
But, it's not the worst in the league. Not from a total yardage perspective, not from a YPC perspective, not from a TD allowed perspective.
Their pass defense though?
Given up the most TD's in the league.
Given up the most yards in the league.
Giving up the best passer rating to opposing QB's.
Giving up a 72% completion percentage to opposing QB's.
And, they were dead last in DVOA going into this week.

Their pass defense is DEFINITLEY worse than their run defense.
The film shows it and the stats/metrics back it up.
A lot of those stats are skewed by the R. Wilson performance which was out of this world as we see he was benched rightly for the better QB in Dart. But their run defense is their achilles heel. They just allowed the Panthers to run 216 yards on the ground which is absurd.
When the Cowboys back end heals up they will improve on pass defense. Same with the Bucs IMO.
But their run defense..not sure how they fix that...

So, the pass defense stats are skewed by the "out of this world" performance of Russ Wilson.
But, the rushing defense stats aren't skewed by the "out of this world" performance by Rico Dowdle.
Lol. Ok.

Dowdle did it two weeks in a row which may be anomalies but really the Cowboys pass defense woes are tied to injuries like the Bucs. The Cowboys were on pace to be the one of the worst pass defenses in NFL history but it is not likely. They held Young to 199 yards passing because the Panthers didn't need to rely on Young so much as the run game did most of the work. But Young did have 25 pass attempts so it wasn't like the Panthers didn't try to exploit some passing matchups. But when you can't stop the run it is hard to defend play action passes in the passing game. Young had 3 passing TD's so that sums it up really.
