Kickers do matter but since the extra point was moved back to the 15, extra points aren’t as much of a gimme as they have been in the past. Granted the extra point field goals made percentage is still in the 90s if I’m not mistaken, it’s less than when it was at the two. Tomlin has started to go for two more often since then. If you have a good enough offense, why not give it a try. If you go for two every time and hit it for 50%, it’s the same as kicking and making a field goal every time. I believe Folk is a capable kicker and I don’t blame him fully for his extra point miss. I wouldn’t have done it with the offense from last year, not as many weapons as this year’s squad.
Is the risk greater than the reward? What would you do with the offense we have now? Just looking at the offense and disregard what the kicking situation has been like for the past decade or so.
