Update......Report: La’el Collins’s paternity test comes back negativeProFootballTalk.comPosted by Mike Wilkening on May 6, 2015, 10:44 PM EDTAccording to a published report, former LSU offensive tackle La’El Collins was not the father of a baby boy who passed away last week.Baton Rouge (La.) police say a paternity test for Collins came back negative, the Baton Rouge Advocate reported Wednesday.Collins’ pregnant former girlfriend, Brittney Mills, was shot to death on April 24. She delivered a baby boy, who died on Friday. His death has been declared a homicide.Baton Rouge police have said Collins is not a suspect in the deaths. He met with earlier this police this week.Collins, who went undrafted as teams waited to learn more information about his situation, is set to meet with the Cowboys, the Advocate reported Wednesday. For the record, Collins has NOT been named a suspect in the murder of Brittney and her unborn son. Our sources say La'el told cops he hadn't spoken with Brittney for several months -- when she first suggested that he could be the father of her child. However, the league rejected the request under collective bargaining agreement language stating that the regular draft can’t be avoided by a draft-eligible player to enter the supplemental draft.Collins has communicated through his lawyer that he’s not the father of the child.Collins was a second-team Associated Press All-American.The 6-foot-5, 308-pound Collins ran the 40-yard dash in 5.12 seconds at the combine and bench pressed 225 pounds 21 times. He had a 27-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot broad jump.Collins started 38 career games and was an All-Southeastern Conference selection.He won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the top offensive lineman in the SEC last year, an award voted on by the league’s coaches. Collins played 2,533 career offensive snaps with 222 knockdowns.Former LSU running back Terrence Magee said he has texted with Collins.“I told him I’m praying for him,” Magee told National Football Post. “Hopefully, this whole thing gets cleared up. It’s a crazy situation. It’s a shame, but I’m sure it’s all going to work out for him in the end.”
