Definitely. If I'm a betting man, I think he turns around this year too. I wonder what the coaches have been telling him? Like are they letting him roam/free lance to create possible INT's? Not sure why we've seen a guy who has been sound at his assignments for 4 years straight suddenly just play undisciplined.Antoine Winfield JR regression has been painful to watch. The amount of big plays and TD's he has given up because he is not in the right spot has been hard to come to terms with. Guy was suppose to be have inside help to Hayes on that 4th down TD conversion but was in the linebacker zone/area. Not sure why..But that was just one example of what's been happening ALL year long. Him and Whitehead just blowing assignments on the back end. The DB coach has got to be toast by next week. Those guys are way too smart of football players to be making the same mental mistakes over and over again. Bowles, will be fired at some point. This year, or the next - his time will come and when it does we won't miss him.
yeah disappointing year. Not saying it will happen with AWJ but we've seen this before with safety big contracts and disappearing.
If AWJ has another season or 2 like this, he wont see the end of the contract.
i think AWJ is too good for that to happen so 2025 should hopefully be a bounce back year
Agreed. Not sure if it was possible last year but if I have to choose between Dean or Davis, I'm picking Carlton 9/10 times. I understood why they did it, just thought it was the wrong CB to cut ties with.OR REPLACE [Davis] WITH A COMPARABLE FA
can everyone at least agree that the Bucs did NOT do this on defense and it was BECAUSE of $$$?

Nowhere to go but up. He was hurt and awful all year.
Really sucks
@bucsbits I think Bryce Hall was supposed to be good depth at that position this year...sucks he got hurt in training camp.

Bowles playing a shit load of zone is one of the biggest reasons they traded the m2m CB they drafted and paid big money to. His decisions made it foolish to have two m2m corners making that much money.
If they played more man and they still traded Davis, it would be a money-only decision. But it wasn't that simple.
Thats true. Davis was excellent too here when asked to play to his strengths, but Bowles loves his soft zone. SighsAgreed. Of course, you have this EXACTLY backwards

McLaurin is their big receiving threat
we defend his M2m over and over and over.
First quarter - -we blitz and they throw up a 30 plus yard completion to McLaurin. Dean covering M2M
Second quarter -- 3 and 6, They go deep to McLaurin. McCollum covering M2m. Incomplete
Third quarter - GOAL LINE Dean in M2M - knock down McLaurin pass in
THAT IS THE POINT : Dean goes down and Hayes comes in and he cant do the same thing. McLaurin roasts him for a 4th down TD, right?s?

Yup. It is another reason why drafting a m2m corner in the early rounds would be a waste of resources, if Todd "Cover Zero Guy" Bowles continues playing this much zone.
I feel like Dean has a tendency over the years (or at least it seems that way) where when he gets torched badly he feigns and injury because his ego is bruised...Parlays that into a few games off then comes back and goes about his business until the next time... I could be completely wrong, but it seems like he goes down a lot after giving up a terrible play...I have a feeling Dean will meet the same fate as Davis last year, if not traded I could see him cut post June 1st which gives back 12.8 mil toward the cap....He just misses too much time coupled with a severe lack in either turnovers and sacks.
@bucshot420 I’ll take that assessment - I’ve just noticed when he has a collision - he’s out for several games.
I agree also that his time in Tampa is done.
Eagles were probably looking forward to a little payback, but it's not going to happen this time.i think i hate the bucaneers more than our own cowboys and commies, because we have raped them for 30 years. bucaneers just have our number, too bad they have no future now, a second tier team badabingboom, very intelligent name btw, sport.
I won't be sad if Bowles gets fired or retires, but if you are strictly thinking about 2025 the best thing is to keep the status quo. If Coen gets the HC job he's going to have to hire a new DC and they'll be transitioning on defense while a new HC is learning on the job. It may be great for a long-term rebuilding project, but not a recipe for success in the short term.
Do you want the Bucs to retool and be ready perhaps for 2026 or go for it all in 2025? If you actually think that Coen and a new DC can come in and take us to the next level next year your really fooling yourself. Not gonna happen. The only chance to compete in 2025 is to keep Coen at OC and keep Bowles. It's as simple as that.
So if you want Bowles fired, be prepared to have 2025 be a transition year, not a year where we go deep in the playoffs.
And as for Coen, he has option A) interview hard or B) stay out of the fray. The downside of him interviewing wherever he can is that if he doesn't get it then he becomes somebody who was rejected multiple times. That's a bit of a stigma. People might wonder if he is not interviewing well, when in actuality it's his experience level that's the reason people don't hire him. If he sends out the message that he wants to wait, then he still has that aura of a HC in waiting.
Maybe we should make a trade with the Steelers and bring Mike T home! Make him the HC and keep Coen as the OC/Asst HC.
Great idea, but I don't think that'd be incentive for Coen to find another job.Maybe we should make a trade with the Steelers and bring Mike T home! Make him the HC and keep Coen as the OC/Asst HC.
