Don't concern yourself with the ramblings of JC.If it were up to him, Freeman would be eating up all of our cap space

Hell, JC wanted to get rid of McCoy.  Now, all of the sudden, the team can't afford him.

He's gotta be fugged in the head.

McCoy needs to be kept.  That's a no-brainer.  If anyone on defense needs to go for cap reasons Revis is #1 on that list, not Geraldini.  Pass rush >>>>>>>one CB

Bucs may save money with McCoys new deal given his rookie deal was before rookie contracts were restructured.

Calvin Johnson's rookie deal was for $10.7M a year. His extension was for $16.5M a year. Joe Thomas' rookie was for $7.2M a year. His extension was for $12M a year. Stafford's rookie deal was for $12M a year. His extension was for $17.7M a year. And before you mention Geno Atkins, it's irrelevant because the Bengals had the leverage of the franchise tag in their favor because his number was fairly reasonable. McCoy's franchise tag is $15.8M and Suh's is $25.7M. Both of them are going to blow up the DT pay scale.

The franchise tag works on the previous years average of the top five players for a relative position.  So what Atkins received is actually relevant and may still be relevant by the time McCoy has to be re-signed.

Not in McCoy's case. It's going to be 120% of his 2014 cap number. His 2015 tag number is $15.8m. Bucs have no leverage are just at his mercy.

Bucs will have enough cap space to re-sign McCoy before his contract is up so the franchise tag may not come into play.  David on the other hand will be interesting to watch though.

His franchise tag number comes into play by default because thats where negotiations will start. He can get $16M a year from his franchise tag or from the free agent market.

And JC what do you suggest we do with McCoy instead of paying him?Who the hell bltches about having to pay a great player who has earned it and plays at a premium position?

Even with a legit All-Pro season he has not earned his contract.

So would JJ Watt.

The guy we never had a shot at drafting!Geeze mister, you're really good at this GM thing! Freeman and draft picks we never had! Superbowl!

Redskins traded out of #10. Watt went #11. Guess Dominik was holding onto to that 2nd round pick so he can secure Bowers, eventhough he probably could have gotten him in the 4th. Actually nevermind, Dominik needed that 4th round pick for Stocker. I'm the idiot though. Continue.

No.Teams start negotiations based on what was the last highest contract awarded to the position in the league.  The franchise tag doesn't come into play unless it is used.

You're being incredibly naive. -His current contract is for $12.7 a year-The previous high picks I mentioned got significantly increased extensions-His tag number is $15.8M- Guy in his defensive huddle get $16M a yearAnd you think negotiations are going to start at $10M? This is what Atkins signed. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000237310/article/geno-atkins-bengals-sign-fiveyear-contract-extension This is the starting point in negotiations.  IMVHO I think McCoy will end up with $13mil per year type of a contract for five years.

this Revis contract is a joke... no matter who is our next GM, he will have to work a lower deal this year or next year!at $16M per year with 0 dead money, one bad year and Revis have to take a paycut if he doesn't want to hit free agency!Dominik era ended last week!McCoy deal should be just over the Geno Atkins deal, $10M per year should be fine, if he want more money let the guy test the market... how many team need a 3 tech DT? and how many ready to give more than $10M per year for him? how many team have the cap room?McCoy is a good fit for the Bucs as much as the Bucs are a good place to be for him at $10M per year!if he doesn't take this offer you still can sign another FA(Casey, Suh, Dareus, Fairley, Odrick, Wilfork, Dorsey...)

Yeah, I don't know why people think Zuttah would play better as a Guard.  Would he be better than Joseph?  Hell yeah, most would.  But Zuttah is a better Center than he is Guard. He's best as a back-up interior OL.

You're missing the point. I'm not sure anyone is saying Zuttah is a better Guard. At least I am not, or what my original post was intended for. Mack + Zuttah = Better than Zuttah + Joseph. Now that Joseph has been released, I think it is surely safe to say the end was near for Joseph a long time ago. Now you could say the equation looks somewhat like this. Mack + Zuttah + = Better than Zuttah + Merrideth +

We need to throw money at mack and allen, then draft a qb.They can fill dj's spot with just about anyone and it's going to be an improvement.
