I was very excited when we hired Lovie Smith. I thought now here is a man that I respect. I true professional that knows how to coach a team and win football games. As long as he gets a real QB and a great offensive coordinator, this is going to be great! Then...He made this Jeff Tedford guy his OC. Who? Some college guy that has never been in the NFL and was not even amazing in college? Really? He called Glennon our QB of the future and signed Josh McClown and named him starter. He managed to cut Darelle Revis and get absolutely nothing in return. He cut a starting caliber LT in Donald Penn and got nothing in return. He then replaced him with Collins. An average RT that has only played LT for a handful of games and was largely unproven. Gave him a nice big fat contract and named him starting LT.He trade a solid starting 27 year old OL in Jeremy Zuttah for a lousy 5th round pick. He went out and gave a huge contract to Michael Johnson to be our starting RE. A guy that has been very average for his 5 year career. He had one great year with 11 sacks and outside of that he has been completely average. Huge contract. Starter. He went out and got Mike Jenkins and made him our starting #2 CB. The same Mike Jenkins that has been an underachiever and disappointing his entire career. The same guy that the Raiders didn't want. Starter.He traded Mike Williams for a bag of peanuts when Mike's stock was at it's absolute lowest. Mike is a knucklehead but never did anything horrible. He could have been retained at least until his value went back up. But nah. Just dump him.That tied our hands, so then we took a WR with the 7th pick when we clearly should have taken a QB, OL, CB, or pass rusher. The draft was full of great WR prospects. Didn't need to panic and take #thuglife Mike Evans. If we were dead set on taking a WR, Brandin Cooks was the guy. We took the bigger guy because height is all that matters when it comes to WRs. Ask Jon Gruden. We continued to completely ignore our needs by taking a RB in the 3rd round instead an OL. Gabe Jackson or Trai Turner were the clear pick for us, but nope. Running back.So no QB, no OL, no CB, and no pass rushers in the top 100. Brilliant. The rest of the draft is still full of great WR prospects and we have nothing behind VJax and Evans, so we'll grab a few receivers late....nope. We blow two 5th round picks on garbage OL prospects now that all the good prospects are finally gone, and the only receiver we take is a glorified running back with bad hands and alligator arms. So we look pretty bad all preseason and week one rolls around and guess what. We are awful. Just turrrible. All three fazes look poorly coached and unprepared. Eerily reminiscent of the Raheem and Schiano eras. Buc fans are already talking about the 2015 draft on Sept 7th of 2014. I'm not the only one who has already lost faith in this regime. I guess the difference between me and most other fans is that I didn't drink the kool-aid and I saw this coming all off season. Sucks to be a Buc.
