Part of that is running for 120 yards on a defense that gave up an average of only 76 per game before. Many on 1st down -- haha

You've said this multiple times, as if it's some "Gotcha" mic drop moment.

Coming into today, what's the success rate been on 1st down runs for the season?

not a mic drop, a joke because the game day thread had a bunch of (silly) cackling about 1st down runs ... as we were running for 11, 11, 13 etc

i can get the success rate but if you know it post it? I only know at this moment that 1st down runs were not a negative today

In 2024 this loss would be a "fire Bowles" loss. I guess in 2025 it's fire Grizz?

I've been debating that name change. I'll do it if he shits the bed next week 😉

Haha well you might want to think twice about that since your screen name could be "GiveAnExtebsionTo ____"

Licht ... check

Bowles .. check

Grizz ...

Grizzard lieks to go deep but when the deep ball isnt there we need some reliable short game. or checkdown game something that is gonna net positive yards when teams have figured out what we like to do deep. Many times this game we look for the deep shot with nothing underneath other than a curl or a guy in the flat(who needs to make his man miss)

We need to be able to win our 1's underneath or over the top, gotta make a lil reinvention of the offense as in add some new concepts as teams have started taking away the deep ball and things we like to do, and put what our guys are good at, because our offense was originally had the plans of a chris godwin and mike evans offense with egbuka as wr3

The offense is now White, tucker Otton, Egbuka, Johnsonx2, sheperd, Miller. We gotta figure out what those guys are good at

Offense was red hot early weeks but now defenses know what we like to do.

Losing to a Vrabel team isnt the end of the season they're a good team.

If I knew, I wouldn't have asked.

What I do know is that we're averaging 3.64ypc on all 1st down runs (1st and 10, non-goal line) which is ranked 30th in the league. Yet, we're in the top half of the league in 1st down run attempts.

Based on this, I'm guessing we're near the bottom in the league in 1st down run success rate.

And, again, you're acting like it's the norm, when today was very much an anomaly.

Sorry that you think it's "silly" that some of us actually want to see Grizz evolve and get better as a play caller.

I was just listening to Mayfield's postgame and he raises this exact issue but putting it on himself. He even says that he adjusted after the fact and started taking what they were giving underneath.

he was talking about the 2nd quarter so will be interesting to watch again either way that in mind

By silly I mean both that it's overblown and that it had almost nothing to do with their struggles in this game. I am happy to be proven wrong about the former but there should be no dispute about the latter.

and anyway the context that would matter would be 1st down run plays  COMPARED TO COEN, right? There's an obvious personnel difference that would impact performance but is the first down run rate different then Coen? It's balanced during the game or arguably even overweight to passing.

So just going of your website we are roughly on track to have the same number of 1st and 10 rushes this year as Coen last year and we have roughly the same number of first and ten rushes this year as the Colts (best rushing team ypc).

the difference with both is performance. You said 3.7. That is just short of a successful 1st down run but also less they Coen in 2024 (5ish) and less that Colts (6ish)

performance is impacted by the line obviously but you run on1st down for more reasons then that downs performance obviously. Romo actually made that point today.

even if you don't agree with that last part though you'd expect our first down running today to be higher because of Goedeke. It was actually lower BUT more successful.  More of that to come I would think, especially if Irving comes back

The notable change in our running, 2024 v 2025, is the absence this season of the pony package and other counter type runs. That has to be personnel related.

it sure doesn't seem to be run v pass on 1st down because the two are similar and both are pretty balanced.

if anything the difference in the two offenses is short passing but some of that seems to be on Mayfield. He even mentioned it postgame.

Corn kept the offense in rhythm with all the short passing. To me that is what is missing.

could be wrong
