He has 2026 under contract before the extension so they could have used this season to reflect on what happened and either extend or fire in January.
I didnt follow the extension that closely, but if he was under contract for 2026 with no extension then he would've been a bit of a lame duck? and they only extended him to 2028?
I definitely get the point you are making, but maybe don't see the extension as a big message then or that big of an impediment now.
And, as much as many fans will hate this part, if Bowles had an in jury defense last season (he did) then he really has that defense now and especially if Mayfield is out for a while. In fact, I think that IF Bowles survives what we may all learn in the offseason is thtya the team was even more banged up then it seemed, Wirfs being one easy example. Mayfield another because he was injured before this.

he would have been a lame duck for 2026 but that's the point, the decision should have been made in January 2026 whether to extend or fire. So only way Bowles actually coached the Bucs next season is if the Bucs brass thought it was satisfactory
and Baker missing time, much like Godwin missing time last year, was a coaching decision. sure, we had bad luck with injuries last 2 years, but these 2 in particular could have been prevented if Bowles was just a bit smarter.
31-7, your franchise QB is was just in medical tent with shoulder injury and you have him chuck a hail mary? What the fuck was Bowles or Grizz thinking?
We all want Bowles head after last night but unfortunately, i think he stays even if the Bucs go 6-11.
Wrong
what's your view? What would the Bucs have to do to keep Bowles job?
I know i wasn’t being asked specifically, but I feel like if Tampa misses the playoffs or even a first round exit after starting the season 6-2(tied for best start in franchise history) and then proceeds to miss the playoffs he’s out…remember the Glazers did that with Gruden, granted it was daddy Glazer but still…they also did it with Dungy after not being able to beat the Iggles in the playoffs 3 years in a row. I think Bowles would likely have to make it to the NFC championship game to be completely safe, but if he squanders the start we had and misses the playoffs that it’s a slam dunk that he is gone. Another first round exit I’d say probably 60/40 he is gone

If the Bucs miss the playoffs after starting 5-1, Bowles is gone. Money to a billionaire isn’t a concern.

and you dont think they give him any leniency with injuries?
again, you and I, know that coaching killed Baker....but maybe they dont see it that way and just a "freak injury"
Being in first place and then losing your starting QB....yeah idk...i hope you are right as a change is needed but i think it's more like this
75% chance he sticks with a playoff miss
90% chance he sticks with a first round playoff loss
