How quickly things can change. Just last week, we were the darlings of the NFC, and now we’re likely out of the playoffs, clinging to a slim hope for a miracle. There are countless reasons for our current predicament, but it all starts with Bowles. His teams consistently struggle to play back-to-back strong games, and his defense is still as bad as its been been all year. While we faced some easier opponents in recent weeks, the Chargers’ quarterback clearly struggled after the David sack early in the second quarter, and prior to that, we looked lost on defense during two earlier drives.

I’m fed up with this situation. Bowles is a genuinely good person and has his moments as a coach, but he lacks the strength to overcome his defensive shortcomings. Opponents consistently exploit his defense in the middle of the field, and far too often, quarterbacks have their best games of the season—or even their careers—against us. His blitzes occasionally make an impact, but more often than not, they leave receivers wide open downfield. We can’t hold on to him, hoping that something will eventually click. He’s average, and so is this team.

Coen may not be the ultimate answer, but he has shown enough potential to warrant a shot. We would regret it forever if another team snatched him up and he blossomed into the next Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay. He has that kind of potential.

Team needs another asshole on the team. A guy like brady who can make it a little more stressful for some people, not toxic but a little more stressful, just to make sure we can come in ready. We need that little kick in the ass ya know, just to make sure everyone is doing what theyre suppose to be doing. Its too easy for this team to relax after hearing good things

When Bowles says its lack of fundamentals first half it tells me we weren't intently focused, and when he says it got better second half it just tells me procrastination got to them and made them perform better.

We just need another asshole that wants/demands near perfection, not blamey/toxic just a guy that wants to outwork and wants those guys with him to work with him because they believe in the same goal

I think you are right here and I think this might carry the day

Sorry but the loss is on Coen. There’s a blueprint for this team to make a deep run. They have a special running game. But his game plan was to throw the ball all over the place. He was 71% pass vs a terrible run defense. If he was 71% run we win that game by double digits

Yep.

And, it's time to move on.

@jc5100 - of course the offense could have played much better, but falling behind early because the defense had no answers in the first half was huge.

Our best games this year have been when we’ve come out and play-action pass all the way down the field and take leads, and then fall into a nice running game. Liam was setting that up until Shepherd dropped the wide open 4th down pass on the first drive. Then second drive is a beautiful TD drive. And then 4th drive is a drop by McMillen which would have put us in red zone. Two major drops on two key downs stopped us from putting up 21 to 24 points in the first half. And our defense still gave up more for a Dallas halftime lead.

Agree, those two drops were critical. The Cowboys defense is built to play with a lead, they can pin their ears back and freely rush the passer. It was paramount that the Bucs score early and jump on top which would have freed up the run game. Early plays determine the game script. So the early failures by the Bucs offense and defense determined the outcome of the game IMHO.

This is spot on.

Teams can win many ways but the Bucs' best script this season has been this ^^ and when that failed early on everything else had to be close to perfect to still win and it was not.

This is why it is often a mistake to focus on a single play as winning or losing a game.  White should just go down and preserve the possession because its first down and there is time BUT he's never in that place TO BEEGIN WITH without lots of failed opportunities before that ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL.

The offense did NOT do its job but neither did the defense create turnovers or sacks or . .  and our top two corners got mangled by Lamb and our best LB got exposed in coverage.

agree with this 100%. Dallas run D is awful and should of been the focus of our attack. I could tell on our first two drives that the game plan was to ride Baker.

this just 2 weeks after Coen didn’t learn against the Panthers who had the worst run defense in the league. Quick trying to be so darn cute and attack the others teams glaring weakness. Sometimes football isn’t that difficult.

This is an offense that passes to setup the run game. It has been all year. If Shepherd catches the pass on our first drive, we more than likely have 2 TDs on the first 2 drives. And then we’re in position to do what we want on offense. Liam has this. Players need to catch and not fumble and we have another 31+ game. Don’t worry about the run:pass ratio.

If Shepherd catches the pass on our first drive,

If that is Godwin its a first down.

If a healthy Winfield is in for Izien, multiple breakups and maybe an INT.

If Wirfs doesn't have an injured knee he doesn't get bowled over like Hainsey.

If LVD isnt almost 35 he doesn't get beaten in coverage.

And he may not even be in that coverage role if we had at least one more NFL-level ILB

If the Bucs had a decent edge opposite Diaby they probable get several sacks in this game

POINT: The Bucs are a team that does not have the the depth of talent to consistently overcome pretty common late season attrition and they also seem to lack the coaching/discipline to see a "should win" game as a "must win" game.

Two games to go!

No matter who the coaches is next year the Bucs are still a team in transition.

Lots of assets on offense, need to restock on defense!

(Please, please start by finding an actual NFL edge!)

we’re top 5 rushing team in the league. Not some mediocre run team. We are good enough to impose our will, ESPECIALLY when it’s the other teams weak spot. It’s a stupid game plan.

@rhbucsfan - not so much early in games. Our best starts to our games this year have been when we’ve come out, throwing the ball. We don’t play for third down, we make plays on first and second down. Every game we’ve tried to establish the run early. We get in third and short situations and don’t pick it up and end up, punting. Our best offense is scoring early and often, and then riding the rest of the game with the running game.

generally speaking, yes, I’d agree with you. But when you play Dallas or Carolina and their rush defense sucks, than that needs to be our focus. As support for my case, we didn’t do that and we lost to Dallas and we should of lost to Carolina if not for the Anthony Nelson strip of Chuba Hubbard.
