Great game by the Bucs. To beat a team like the Lions in Detroit, all the matters is the win. But my biggest kudos goes to Coach Bowles.
Over the last 3 years I’ve been unhappy with the high percentage of blitzes against offenses like the Lions, Rams, 49ers, etc. Bowles would over coach and bring the house too often and these teams would carve us up underneath.
Even though we had minimal pressure with our 4 man rush (which I’ve written constantly about the lack of edge pressure talent) coach was patient and let his pass coverage work over top. He made the Lions have to be perfect. No miscommunication and broken coverage.
This win is your win Coach Bowles. Now go get a punter that can help with field position. This guy has lost all his confidence over the last 2 years.
Agreed.
hopefully vea is ok. Mcl sprain. Praying nothing long term.
its early but braswell hasn’t done much in 2 weeks. Hopefully goedeke plays next week
hope we get a new punter as well!
Shout out to the secondary for holding tight. Bend but don't break.
Shout out to the Defensive line for filling in the gaps when it counts.
Shout out to the offensive weapons for keeping us in the game and glad our receivers stayed active. It was great to see Godwin catching passes and getting the touchdown.
Biggest shout out goes to the Blue Collar QB that in my book stole the show with that impressive run for touchdown. They showed the statute of Barry Sanders after the run and I thought he brought shades of his running to mind.
All in all it was a great game and took the teeth out of the Lions. I love that we have the depth and that the players are only going to get better after this. We have a hungry team that is going to keep striving to be better. You can see it in the way they play.
The secondary played very well but you have to give credit to the backup DL and Dennis on the front end for stepping up too.
@alldaway You're correct and I did leave him out by mistake. He was playing with a vengeance. I don't want to take nothing away from him. Next week will be another test and we will see the team do their preps for it. Can't wait...Go Buc's!!
Biggest shoutout to me goes to the defense.
A unit missing a number of personnel, including the best player on the team (AWJ).
And, you had a number of guys absolutely STEP UP!
My only real disappointment was Coen. Didn't really do anything to even attempt to neutralize Hutchinson.
Oh, and can we end the Mauch experiment already?
I have to echo the shoutout of the Man Who Hunts Ass---Defense. To hold Detroit to a single TD and 3 FG's with the injuries they had, in Detroit's dome, is remarkable. I guess a tip of the cap to Licht is warranted for the defensive depth of the team, also. A great win, albeit the 2nd game of the season.

agree with all of this
who would we go with as replacement of Mauch? I guess Klein?
Shout out has to go to the DEFENSE. So many stepped up, Zyon McCollum, Izien, Whithead, Yaya, …and that D-line!?
But Baker kept us in it - played gutsy throughout under SO much pressure - and was the lead rusher?
What a GREAT team win!

Yup.
Defense won that game today. Proud of that unit.
Now, it's time to go curb stomp the Broncos!
We have the right guys on both sides of the ball. Defensive scheme was GREAT Bowles was on point.
Offensive scheme was a mixed bag - two plays where either the receivers ran wrong routes, or the scheme was AWFUL offset by some great schemes - but that TD to Godwin caught the Lions flatfooted!
Also, credit Jason Licht & Todd Bowles for stacking defensive talent. That defensive scheme matched the talent that was there, and the coaching was phenomenal.
Also, shout out to the Detroit offensive - outside of the fake punt call - that planking worked perfectly to our defensive strength.
I am stunned, I respect Bowles, but really didn’t think he could pull this off with the defensive injuries that bit deep into this roster.
I do wonder how the game would of looked if we had our RT, both DT’s and AWJ. Not sure if we run away with game but think we might have put a extra nail in the coffin when Goff threw the interception late in the game. Dennis, Zion, Whitehead, the other safety ( can’t spell sorry) Smith and Dean all played great.

Youre probably right
So, big bonus on top of an already great win is that soon some of those players are back AND we got to see wome young talnet really show out.
