What a turnaround from Week 3 against the Broncos! It really highlights how much can change from week to week in the NFL.
A team's consistency and success begins with the coaching staff. These players are the best in the world, and when one coaching staff has a superior game plan, it usually dictates the outcome of the game.
Take the matchup between Payton and Bowles in Week 3, for instance. The Broncos were 0-2 while the Buccaneers were 2-0. Payton’s scheme often outperforms Bowles' despite the talent on the field. Fast forward to Week 4, and Bowles has had the Eagles figured out since after our loss to them earlier last season. Hurts has historically struggled against the blitz, making it a perfect match for Bowles’ defensive strategy. Plus, losing two of their key receivers certainly didn't help the Eagles.
I was pleased to see Cohen come out aggressive with his passing game. He was throwing on first down, second down, and even on third and short—regardless of the down and distance. This approach kept the Eagles off balance, as they weren't expecting us to air it out so frequently.
Cohen implemented a similar strategy in Week 1 and effectively executed against the Lions. I’m not sure why he reverted to running the ball so often on first and second downs against the Broncos. It felt reminiscent of our play style in 2022 and 2023, almost as if Bowles was advising him to establish a running game—running on first down, consuming time, and keeping his defense off the field. But that’s not our strength. We should let Baker throw on first down to keep defenses guessing.
Yesterday’s game was exciting to watch. The Eagles are a great matchup for us right now. While we may still face challenges against different schemes, it’s encouraging to see us finally take off the handcuffs.
A great win for sure. How the team responds to media darlings is what concerns me
Last year, started out at 3-1. There was damn near documentaries being made about how Baker has found a home in Tampa. The team then plays like shit and goes 1-6.
Then, we right the ship and go 4-0. This is a "team to be reckon with" and we lay a turd against the Saints in a win and clinch division at home.
This year, coming off an impressive road victory over Detroit, we get our shit pushed in by the mediocre Denver Broncos.
So now, at 3-1, and dismantling the WR-less Eagles, i do imagine some praise being thrown our way. Maybe the short week will be a good thing in terms of the sports talk shows
we can really have some separation in the division with a win this Thursday. I think if we can go 2-2 in the next 4 - that wont be as bad (2 ATL, NO, BAL)
@badabingbucs - I’m hoping they learned from week 3. I think it’s a bigger deal with their schemes.
