Week 7: Bucs Win If / Ravens Win If
This matchup is significant on a national level, featuring two 4-2 teams that have shown glimpses of potential championship caliber. While the Ravens come in a bit more battle-tested, the Bucs have also had their moments of brilliance.
Ravens Offense
The Ravens possess the speed necessary to exploit some of the Bucs' personnel weaknesses, particularly with Britt. Lamar Jackson poses a threat to all defenses, but players like Flowers add to the big-play potential. The Ravens excel at isolating opposing corners during outside runs by using their receivers to target safeties, leaving corners to contend with the ball carrier. Two years ago, Zion struggled in those scenarios, but he has improved since then. Still, the question remains: how will he fare when facing Derrick Henry in the open field? The Bucs are expected to commit heavily to run defense on early downs. The Ravens should consider utilizing play-action passes early and focusing on a power run game later in the game.
Bucs Defense
First and foremost, let’s hope Vita is healthy. The Bucs' backside edge players must remain vigilant against rollouts on every play that goes away from them. They need to establish edge containment without relying on corner help, which may not always be feasible in certain formations. Bucs safeties must be aggressive and tackle effectively. Slowing down the Ravens is essential; if they can limit them to 24 points or fewer, the Bucs stand a good chance of winning.
Ravens Defense
The Ravens boast a strong run defense, and it’s likely they won't struggle against our running game. Look for the Bucs to come out throwing during the initial drives. Ravens should try to keep Baker from settling in. Early blitzes and a two-high safety look should be employed frequently, especially with Evans potentially on the field.
Bucs Offense
So far this season, the Bucs’ offense has really only stopped itself. They must maintain their aggressive approach and keep their foot on the gas. The key to winning this game lies in the offense's performance. Bucs cannot come out and try to establish a running game early. If they do they may find themselves falling behind, forcing them to confront a Ravens defense that will then focus on shutting down the passing game. Instead, they should play to their strengths, mixing in passes during running situations to keep the Ravens off balance. Avoid overthinking by trying to involve all three running backs (leave that to the fans); instead, stick with what’s working and keep it simple.
Extra Special Teams
Special teams generally favor the Ravens, and this game should be no exception. Their coverage and return units are superior to the Bucs'. However, I'm confident in Chase's ability to compete against any kicker in the league right now.
Prediction: With home-field advantage, the Bucs' defense creates an early turnover, allowing them to build a significant lead that keeps the Ravens from relying on their run game. Bucs win 30-23.
Bucs win if
1 - the defense doesnt have a repeat performance of their Thursday night game against Atlanta
2 - The offense continues to buzz as it's done the last 3 weeks
Dean placed on IR
Bucs win if they control the ball on offense and hold most some of the Ravens drives to FGs. Vita Vea has to be at 100% or close to it.
Ravens win if they control the time of possession and Isaiah Likely has a big day.
Great job by Baker checking into that sweep on 4th
