That Time Scouts Were Wrong About Mike Evans The Pewter Plankby Jose Martinez 1h ago Let us start off by saying that you’re never always going to be correct when predicting the potential of every single player going into college football. Still, there is a slight bit of gratification from the athlete and their respective fans when they “beat the odds” and become something special. In 2011, Mike Evans went through this process, declaring for Texas A&M in his final year at Ball High School in Galveston, Tex.Here’s what Rivals.com thought about Evans:
While Evans didn’t manage to grow anymore in his three years playing for the Aggies, he did bulk up quite a bit. In his senior year at high school, Evans was listed at 180 pounds, a far cry from the 231-pound frame that he is currently sporting. Our favorite part of the above image, though, is his Rivals rating of three out of five stars. Basically, Evans was seen as a mediocre talent. Now look at him. A Rookie of the Year finalist, one of 15 players to eclipse the 1,000-yard receiving mark in their rookie season since the AFL-NFL merger and the clear-cut future No. 1 wideout for our Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Again, this is no slight against Rivals.com. Instead, we’re ecstatic they got it wrong.Houston Texans defensive end offered up a humbling reminder to every big-time high school football player putting ink to paper on Signing Day. JJ Watt ? @JJWatt Annual reminder that it's not all about how many stars you have or how many cameras show up at your signing. It's what you do next.9:35 AM - 4 Feb 2015
