He could do  that better from the booth.

You have absolutely no idea if this is true or not.

And did you pull that 75% number out of your ass?

No I asked Google AI Mode.  It's just my opinion.

How many OC’s call plays from the sidelines isn’t something that requires an opinion. Instead of yanking numbers from your anus, you should try researching the issue and educating yourself.

All HC’s that are playcallers obviously do so from the sidelines - for obvious reasons. But many coordinators-only call from the booth. I don’t know the percentage, but would be curious to find out.

Not that curious, I guess.  STFU Biggs.  You cant post without being a douche.

FWIW, most people here have posted about Monken for years. He has explained that he prefers to call from the booth because it allows him to stay calm and focused and not caught up in the sidelines energy

Grizz seems like a guy who needs the pulse of the team from series to series.  More of a players coach.  He feels like a more natural fit for what we are doing in Tampa than Morton does up in Detroit.  Tampa feels aggressive on offense.  Should be one hell of a season for Baker and Co.

The most important thing is he has experience in the booth, used this preseason to experiment and came to a conclusion that he thinks works best for him.  Thats about all you can ask for.  If he changes his mind because of in-game experience he may go back up.

Griz's main strength is "Intelligence and innovation: Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles described Grizzard as "bright and innovative" and instrumental in game planning and play design.

So, again, who says he can’t do that from the sidelines?

I'd prefer him in the booth but if he drives results who fucking cares?

75% of OCs are on the sidelines.  The benefit for being in the booth is being able to see whats happening on the field.  You can identify match ups based on who's getting beat, who's a little tired or overmatched.  These are things you can see better from above.   The main advantage of being on the sidelines, other than being able to do some butt slapping, is to have direct conversations with the quarterback.  It's bettter than doing it from the booth, but you can still communicate from the booth.

Bottom line IMO- We didn't hire Griz to be a leader of men, much as he would like to do that.   He's the brains of the operation.  We hired him to scheme up some plays, not give pep talks.  He could do  that better from the booth.

Huh.  Okay, then if your last sentence is true, then why are "75% of OCs on the sidelines"? as you say in your first sentence.  Doesn't seem to make a ton of sense.

This is the Bucs. It's a unique situation as is every other team.  The 75% came from AI.  Now it's telling me 80 percent "According to an ESPN article published in November 2023, of the 20 offensive coordinators who were identified as calling plays at that time, 16 (80%) were on the sidelines, while 4 (20%) were in the booth. "  Obviously there's something to be said for doing it on the sidelinesif 80% do it that way, but I explained already why I think Griz belongs in the booth.  Just my opinion that we need him above the fray using his brains and analyzing situations and not pretending to be a rah rah motivating type of coach on the sidelines.  I'm not saying he can't do his job on the sidelines, but I think it would be an advantage for him to be in the booth.  Probably not going to happen, not right away anyway from the sound of it.

Interesting that AI can't seem to keep its answer straight.  Wonder how that happens?

Regardless, I would look at the top-5 or so OCs and whether they are on the sidelines or in the booth.  i believe they're all on the sidelines.  which tells me everything i need to know on that subject.

Also, I'm not sure where you get the idea that OCs on the sidelines just do a lot of "rah-rah" stuff and don't actually coach.  Been watching every KC-OC since Andy became HC, and that's definitely not been the case.  And since they began producing "The Franchise" series, you can actually see and hear a lot of the sideline conversations between the OCs and various offensive players, which makes it clear that it's not just a lot of butt-slapping going on between series.

But whatever.  like I said, Grizz will figure out what he likes, it might just take a few games.  Hopefully just not the entire season.

He can.  But there are only three people who should be in his ear.  Anybody else will only distract him.  He doesn't need to be yelling at the refs, slapping players butts, and giving pep talks.  That's very rewarding and unnecessary.  For his first year as OC he needs to do one job and one job only during the game:  Call plays.

1) The QB who tells him whats going on on the field.

2) One designated offensive coach who tells him what's going on with his players.

3) The head coach who tells him the situations, calls timeouts, etc.

Those are the only three people who should be talking to him. Limiting the distractions and keeping him totally focused on the play calling is what is going to result in success in his first year.  After that you can build in some butt slapping and cursing out the refs so he can be a head coach some day.

I think the first quote you posted had an "AND?"  He said he preferred to be on the sidelines for the camaraderie and....?

He enjoys the camraderie.  Whoopdedoo.  He's a rookie coach, not Todd Monken or Kellen Moore.  Griz can suggest where he likes to coach, but the final say is Todd Bowles.  Bowles has seen a lot in his days and Griz hasn't coached any.  It's Todd Bowles' decision to make, not a greenhorn rookie coach.  So another Todd Bowles decision that will have a big impact on the success of this team.  It's not Griz's decision to make.  IMO Bowles should say "You're in the booth for the first year, Griz."  Done.  Decision made.

These takes continue to be laughable. Goofy sports radio-laughable.

I"m not paid for my takes.  I'm just a fan.  I have my opinion, I gave reasons for my opinion.  That's it.  That's what a sports board is for.  But I can give you my Venmo if you want to help me start my media career for the couple years I have left before Social Security kicks in.

As usual you rush to criticize other opinions, which is fair enough.   But you criticized AI.  That's going to come back to bite you in a couple years.

Grizzard: “Hey Coach Bowles, after trying both, I really think I’ll be more successful and efficient if I can call the plays from the sideline.”

Bowles: “I don’t give a shit, rook. You’re gonna call the plays from the booth.”

Makes plenty of sense.

Different words, but yeah.  Bowles is the head coach. Could you imagine Belichick or Parcetls o their coordinator "Well what do you want to do young lad?  Whatever it is, I'm game!"  No, Belichick would say "Your doing XYZ" and that's it.  Whatever is best for the team is what needs to be dolne and it may or may not line up with the desires of a rookie offensive coordinator.  We need Bowles to have some stones and act like the veteran head coach that just got an extension and make decisions.  That may be to put him on the sidelines, but whatever it is Griz will be happy to do it because he knows its not his call to make.  Again, it would be different if we brought in a high profile guy from outside.  Then you have to give him some leeway to runs things the way he sees fit.  But that's not the case here.

Yeah, the logic of it in today’s NFL, just doesn’t seem to be linear.
