Were Scot McCloughan's Bryce Harper Comments Racist? by Maurice Barksdale 6h ago  Capture_Zpsh9Cc4Vka.pngWashington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan has just engineered a very good NFL Draft and the momentum for the team was surging.  But McCloughan made some comments about Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper recently that have brought a bit of controversy onto the team.McCloughan made an appearance on 106.7 The Fan’s “Grant and Danny” and was asked what position he thought Bryce Harper could play in the NFL?  Here’s what McCloughan had to say:“Ehh, probably strong safety. But, I went to a game a couple weeks ago, and he flipped his hips and caught a fly ball out in right field in the corner, and I thought, maybe cornerback. But I’m thinking, uh, okay, no, he’s gotta be a safety. He’s a white guy.”Some have categorized these comments as racially insensitive but I don’t think McCloughan was trying to be insensitive or racist.  I don’t think he was serious.  Does Scot McCloughan really believe that white athletes can’t play cornerback?  He can explain what he meant by that himself.Although perhaps it’s somewhat relevant to note that according to a 2011 New York Times report that details racial stereotypes in the NFL, all 167 cornerbacks listed on NFL rosters on a Monday in December of that year were African-American. Unfortunately, more recent data could be tracked down. But there will always be some who look for the worst in anything.  I don’t think McCloughan meant anything racist by what he said.  I think he was trying to be funny and told a bad joke.  He’s a football man after all, not a comedian. Some in the media will try to blow this out of proportion and heap more controversy on the Redskins but I don’t think there’s anything to see here.  That’s how I feel about it.link
