Licht and his scouts are the professionals. They spend the most time. They have a pretty good track record (aside from two atrocious years, hopefully this won’t be a third).

Egbuka is a great player and great person. Just not sure it makes the biggest difference on this year’s team. And then we drafted two good cornerbacks with questions.

Looking back and seeing what fell into our lap, let’s imagine what could have been.

Put aside the Mike Green concerns for this discussion, because we really have no idea what is involved. Besides, he did get drafted by the Ravens in the 2nd round. Is that even a slap on the wrist? That could be the best value pick in the draft, we will see.

So, this could have looked a lot different today. We could have Jahdae Barron, Mike Green, and Xavier Watts. We’re all estimating talents, as are Licht and his crew. But I would be ecstatic with those three on this defense today. Barron would start and produce day 1. Green would play plenty as Bowles likes to rotate his edge players and he’d possibly be our best pass rusher. And Watts would give us depth to play with.

I would feel like our defense would truly have a chance to get us to the next level in the post season. A much better defense than what we’re looking at today. But what do I know? Nothing. I can only hold out hope that Licht has push the right buttons.

He’s absolutely a sure thing. Almost a zero percent chance he busts and will be a perennial 1,000+ yard receiver in the league. His route running and ability to get open is absolutely elite and translates perfectly to the league.

Looking back, it reinforces the fact about Licht that we never seem to want to embrace.  We don't think like him.  We look at it like a jigsaw puzzle.  The Bucs have missing pieces, and we need to draft players who fit into the empty spots so we can fill up the puzzle.   We look under ever seat cushion.  We can't stand to look at that puzzle with a piece missing.  It drives us crazy.

Licht's #1 concern is character and how the player will fit into the culture of the team.  If he finds a player who has the talent and has the high character off the field and is a football player on the field he takes them.  How they fit into that team culture is more important than how he fits into the starting lineup.  Of course he looks at how that player fits into the lineup, but that's secondary.  Licht isn't trying to fill in all the puzzle pieces.  And in doing so that's why we have a team with a great locker room.

I'm not saying we need to build a statue for Licht.  Because its not a shock that at the end the day we have some great guys on the team but some gaping holes with UDFAs running around filling them.  We all rave about Licht's great recent drafts, but we only look at the pieces he did get, not the pieces he didn't get.

The proof is in the pudding.  It's all about winning in the end.  And being the king of the hill of the sorry NFC South isn't good enough.  We need to see more.

If Egbuka can do what JSN did as rookie this offense is about to take off.

That is a fair point.

But what fans perceive as holes the team does not perceive as hole so that is the disconnect right there. The team is high on Dennis as LB and feel with the corrective shoulder surgery it is behind him now.  Personally expect a LB early day 3 as insurance but not one that is going to be a plug and play starter the minute they are drafted.

Morrison and Parrish also represent the team's shift to heavy use of off coverage and the team moving on from Dean in 2026.

Egbuka is going to be under contract with McMillan and Godwin beyond this season.

Bucs FO definitely has a vision of what the future team will look like and maybe looking too far ahead may undermine the potential for them to win NOW.  But I think that they are also looking at the young players they already have on hand to see them grow too.

I wanted Mike Green. He was there for the taking in the second. Watch him dominate in Baltimore. Number one objective on defense is you’ve got to get after the QB

We won the Superbowl and Licht will probably get his statue one day.  But just imagine for a second if our division had a team like the Bills or Ravens or 49ers or Chefs or even Packers or Steelers.  We'd be an also ran instead of the division champs. We'd have a totally different perspective on what's happening with our team.

This franchise isn’t taking players with sketchy backgrounds anymore, especially someone with the baggage that Green has. He has two very serious SA accusations against him and was banned from competing in sports in Virginia when he was in high school. Much higher chance he gets in trouble with the law than ever accomplishing anything in the NFL.

Love the Egbuka pick. Don't like the short armed ND pick over Greene but I'm fine with it. The Kansas St kid might be the better pick of the 2 corners.

isn’t this the same franchise that drafted Jameis #1 overall and signed some guy named Antonio Brown as a free agent?

Pretty sure Licht was the GM for those moves.

Maybe but the draft strategy is based on future projection of the team but also what your divisional foes are doing.  Bucs are loading up on DBs knowing they have three very young an experienced QBs starting in this division from divisional rivals.

Also all three divisional foes do not have the ability to match up with the players the Bucs have in the passing game.  No wonder the divisional foes are loading up on DBs because they can see the writing on the wall what the Bucs will be doing...

They were, and they’ve obviously learned from those mistakes.
