Options areDraftTrade up for Clowney.Of all the players in the draft or free agency this is the no.1 RDE available and has the potential to transform our defense into one of the greatest of all time.Stay put and reach for Ealy or Crichton. Bad choice. Better off waiting until round 2 unless you love one of them. Trade back and get one of the above. Better choice but not ideal. Not too high on either of these players. Free AgencyBennettHardyHoustonTuckAllenAgain not the best way to build a team. But we need a pass rusher badly. If we can get one for a few years until we can draft one we need to do it. The Dominik MethodCounting on the young players on the roster to suddenly transform themselves over the off season into NFL grade starters. GholstonClaybornMeans lolBowers lolNot too high on this group. Clayborn can play on run downs. That part of the equation is solved. Bowers and Means? Not expecting anything from them. Gholston if you ask me can play LDE UT and NT on passing downs. The Dominik method is the only one that I am sure won't work. There is no edge rusher here.

Or the draft rounds 2-7, UDFA, waiver wire, Free agency, trade, someone on the roster. There are many many options

There is a reason why I didn't list those two 3-4 LB'S as options. We run a 4-3 defense. Unless you think Lovie is going to change his defense around so that he can draft a player that does not fit his system with the no.7 overall pick. I could not fathom this actually happening.

A trade is possible. But teams rarely put top DE'S up for trade and then you are giving up draft picks and paying top dollar. It is an option. Not a good one probably unless the terms are favorable. So is waiver wire but unless you have a crystal ball its hard to determine who is going to be available. These are not usually going to be your best bets.  See: Mark Dominik Free Agent Trash Pile Experiment. Rounds 2 through 7 I would imagine anyone drafted in those rounds would barely see the field as a rookie at all. Drafting a pass rushing specialist in the mid rounds could be a good idea. A Justin Houston type could work. I would definitely avoid that type of player with the no7 overall pick.  But maybe gamble on a player later. It's just not a really solid strategy IMO.. The chances of getting a player who is going to be an impact edge rusher in the rookie year outside of the 1st round is very low.

AC belongs on the left side, I always believe that.  We do need a pass rush LDE, I think that Bowers & The kid frm M state would flourish on the rt side Keep our eyes open for that.

I like Gholston but I don't think he can play RDE. He's not athletic enough if you ask me. We need a bender. Someone like Simeon Rice who can get upfield quickly. Then Lavonte David plays more WLB traditional role and plugs that gap. If we had Clowney it would solve the problem but I can't justify trading too many picks to get him. We are already short on picks and need offense.

Round 2 is where the Bucs go hunting for an undersized edge rusher IMO (unless they take Mack in the first round). Adding a free agent DE is almost a guarantee though.

Alright. Lovie has been coaching a long time. Give me the name of the last 3-4 LB he drafted to be a 4-3 DE. Surely he hasn't passed over every single 3-4 undersized rush LB right? ???
