Put yourself in the Glazers shoes. Are you going to fire somebody when you would have to pay him for another 3 years? I don't believe I would have gotten a solid look at him yet after two. Not after the crap that Freemam did for us. If I'm the Glazers I look and see how he does in these final three games. I make a solid assessment about what Schiano could do if we gave him another year and then plan for next year. I think it's wise to see what you could do this season as far as HC goes but if you believe it would be starting over I keep going with Schiano. At least for one more year.

If I'm in the Glazer's shoes, I'm thinking "Man, these Bruno Maglis sure are comfortable. Think I'll just relax until the end of the year and make my decision then."

Some perception from Adam Schefter:

Schiano turned out to be the coach the Buccaneers thought they were getting when they hired him, quieting his critics and proving his team had not quit on him. Over the past five weeks, the Buccaneers have gone 4-1. Had Tampa Bay not committed a silly penalty in the opening-game loss to the Jets, or made one more play the next week against the Saints, this team could be in the thick of the playoff hunt. Tampa has turned it around.

The majority of the fans here don't give a shit about having to pay Schiano for another three years if they fire him...they want it black and white...win or go home. This is the reason the Glazers have more money than all of us combined...they make smart financial decisions...and make no mistake about it...firing a HC with 3 yrs left on his contract is a financial decision

Assuming these games play out the way they are expected to he's toast. I think the question is what have a I seen that says he is a savior? Does he have brilliant schemes? Is he a great game day guy? Do his teams play smart? Does he maximize the talent and players on the roster? Does he create matchup problems and exploit weaknesses? Does he have a stable of highly respected assistants who are gonna move to to better things? To me the problem is I'm saying no to all of those. ..and I don't think I am just saying that about his time here. I don't think the answer is yes if you include his Rutgers days.

If I had to put money on whether Schiano will turn into a top NFL coach or not, I'd say he won't. But looking over the landscape of the NFL and how long coaches get to prove themselves, I'd say most circumstances would point to Schiano getting one more year to fully prove whether his program is going to work or not.

If I'm the Glazers then Schiano has to beat either the 49ers or Saints to keep his job. If he loses both those games then I clean house with one exception. Keep Dave Wannstedt as Defensive Coordinator. Hire:Bill Polian as Executive VP of Operations. Tony Dungy as General ManagerLovie Smith as Head CoachDave Wannstedt as Defensive Coordinato and Gary Kubiak as Offensive Coordinator. My dream Staff.

There are several problems here with this board. The most dramatic being a huge and I mean huge lack of information about the day to day goings on with the team. The most obvious was everyones hatred of Schiano for playing Revis is zone so much. Comes out later that Revis says he wasn't healthy enough for that. So it's stuff like that. We just don't have enough info to tell whether things are right or not. Is Schiano to conservative on offense or does he realize the limits of our injury riddle offense with a rookie QB.I think the Glazers are making the right call if they have Schiano back for a while. I've been saying it all year, you don't give a HC a 5 year deal if your unsure about him. When he signed a deal to that length you should have known several things. 1. The Glazers view this franchise turn around as a long fix not quick fix, ie no one would have us in the playoffs this year.2. There is no way Schiano gets fired after his 1st year and outside of a zero win or one win season little chance of it after year two.3. Schiano's brand of football, hard nosed, tough and don't give up is something the Glazers like, a lot, otherwise he would have never been given the contract and years he was.

Problem is not with the board, it's with the fan base. The only effective solution is relocation.

While you may be right that the Glazers were and are really sure about Schiano, the length of his contract is simply a necessity for hiring away college coaches. Almost all coaches have a rolling 4-5 year contract so they can always tell recruits they're going to be around for the whole time. So in order to hire college coaches, NFL owners have to give them similar contracts. Schiano got 5 years, Chip Kelly got 5 years, Jim Harbaugh got 5 years, and Pete Carroll got 5 years. Coaches who aren't college head coaches don't have as much bargaining power and have to accept shorter commitments. Mike McCoy got 4 years, Dennis Allen got 4 years, Joe Philbin got 4 years, and Mike Munchak got 4 years.

I was ready for them to fire Schiano at mid-year, but I have revised my opinion at this point based on how the team has responded in the second half of the year.  Yes, I realize that we've beaten quite a few 'bad' teams...but we also beat Detroit and Miami, both of whom are still battling for the playoffs.  There aren't a lot of 'elite' teams this year...the Chargers win at Denver last night reinforces that.    I've been impressed by the way the team has responded this year...I thought for sure they would quit on him after game 8...so I was pleasantly surprised by the fact they are playing so much better.    I keep wondering about the parallels to his friend/mentor Belichick...wonder if the Brownies have had any second thoughts about firing him after four years and then watching him become a 3 time SB champion?  Barring a complete collapse the last three weeks, I think we maintain consistency and hope for a great draft/free agency this off-season, conbined with getting some guys back and healthy next year.

+1 about contract length.

The problem with Schiano's brand of Football is that it was built for 70's style Football. It's not built for winning in the NFL of today. Team defenses are to fast nowadays for a run 1st approach offense. You will have limited success against the lesser teams in the league but the Elite teams, aka Patriots and Panthers, know how to shut those types of offenses down.

"You will have limited success against the lesser teams in the league but the Elite teams, aka Patriots and Panthers, know how to shut those types of offenses down."A generic statement that applies to all but the elite offenses, and even to them to some degree. Really says nothing about any particular scheme at all.
