Some perception from Adam Schefter:
Schiano turned out to be the coach the Buccaneers thought they were getting when they hired him, quieting his critics and proving his team had not quit on him. Over the past five weeks, the Buccaneers have gone 4-1. Had Tampa Bay not committed a silly penalty in the opening-game loss to the Jets, or made one more play the next week against the Saints, this team could be in the thick of the playoff hunt. Tampa has turned it around.
Meh, what does Adam Schefter know? Sounds like a Schiapologist to me
At this point I would say it's probably a sure thing we keep Schiano. Here's why.1. He was given a clear directive by the owners to clean up the mess Raheem left...no order, discipline etc. He did2. Got stuck with a QB ( Look what he's doing to Minnesota ) that had many issues so he year 1 was wasted...he also cleaned that up and under the circumstances it doing well with a rookie QB.3. Has done well in the draft and free agency... David, Baron, Martine, etc.4. Dealt with all the distractions including MRSA and Freeman and keep the team focused...shows good leadership.5 Team chemistry is good and playing hard even though the year has been a waste.6. Had to assemble a coaching staff very late in his hiring...made some changes last year but I think more will be made after this season.7. Injuries plagued the team at critical positions...did not use it as an excuse and team played well with replacements. Therefore I think the 3rd year will be the most accurate assessment on Schiano. I believe continuity at this point is vital so lets see we he could without all the distractions he had this year. Starting over would not be easy. The players he has now have bought in to the system...another year is critical.
The majority of the fans here don't give a **CENSORED** about having to pay Schiano for another three years if they fire him...they want it black and white...win or go home. This is the reason the Glazers have more money than all of us combined...they make smart financial decisions...and make no mistake about it...firing a HC with 3 yrs left on his contract is a financial decision
I am so sick of hearing that the money is such a big issue. It's not.The Glazers have shown more than once in the past they will eat the dead money.THAT is why they " have more money than all of us combined". Because they aren't going to stubbornly stick down a road that will cost them a lot because they want to save a little. There's an expression for what the people talking about the small money owed Schiano being a big issue is. "Penny wise, pound foolish". If he is half the failure most people here seem to think, then it will cost much more to keep him than to cut him loose.Nobody wants to throw millions into a lost cause.Only a moron throws money into a clearly lost cause hoping for a miracle.

What are they going to lose by keeping him for one more year?Ticket sales? Please...the season ticket fan base will not erode that much to make a difference.
Assuming these games play out the way they are expected to he's toast. I think the question is what have a I seen that says he is a savior? Does he have brilliant schemes? Is he a great game day guy? Do his teams play smart? Does he maximize the talent and players on the roster? Does he create matchup problems and exploit weaknesses? Does he have a stable of highly respected assistants who are gonna move to to better things? To me the problem is I'm saying no to all of those. ..and I don't think I am just saying that about his time here. I don't think the answer is yes if you include his Rutgers days.
This is about it. There really isn't anything about him that screams "I'm gonna be successful" at this point. The difficulty comes in determining whether that is due to him being overall incompetent, or him having made a mistake in hiring one or two of his coordinators. If it's the former, you fire him and don't look back.If it's the latter, it's probably worth trying to figure out what went wrong in the hiring process and letting him take another shot.

exactly...
Of course it can only be due to someone's incompetence. No other factors could possible be influencing the team not being a playoff team this year.Lest we forget, the last time the Glazers ate a head coach's contract we got stuck with a DB coach babysitting the team for 3 years.

See the thing is that the assistants weren't forced on him. These were his picks. Not his first choices I'm sure but plenty of guys don't get their first choice. Plus, they aren't guys opposed to him philosophically like say a Martz with Lovie type gig. The run heavy deep passing game is what he wants so it isn't the case that Sully is off the Rutgers reservation. The stop the run, stunting thing is also very much what Rutgers wants.
Put yourself in the Glazers shoes. Are you going to fire somebody when you would have to pay him for another 3 years? I don't believe I would have gotten a solid look at him yet after two. Not after the crap that Freemam did for us. If I'm the Glazers I look and see how he does in these final three games. I make a solid assessment about what Schiano could do if we gave him another year and then plan for next year. I think it's wise to see what you could do this season as far as HC goes but if you believe it would be starting over I keep going with Schiano. At least for one more year.
If I were worth $5+ Billion, I don't think $9M is going to bother me. The first thing I'd do is fire Dominik. The second thing I'd do is fire Schiano. The third thing I'd do is interview for GM's and let him build the team.

You may want to read up on how the boys got their money(inherited it from their very shrewd father). You act like they went out and built an empire. Hilarious.
There are several problems here with this board. The most dramatic being a huge and I mean huge lack of information about the day to day goings on with the team. The most obvious was everyones hatred of Schiano for playing Revis is zone so much. Comes out later that Revis says he wasn't healthy enough for that. So it's stuff like that. We just don't have enough info to tell whether things are right or not. Is Schiano to conservative on offense or does he realize the limits of our injury riddle offense with a rookie QB.I think the Glazers are making the right call if they have Schiano back for a while. I've been saying it all year, you don't give a HC a 5 year deal if your unsure about him. When he signed a deal to that length you should have known several things. 1. The Glazers view this franchise turn around as a long fix not quick fix, ie no one would have us in the playoffs this year.2. There is no way Schiano gets fired after his 1st year and outside of a zero win or one win season little chance of it after year two.3. Schiano's brand of football, hard nosed, tough and don't give up is something the Glazers like, a lot, otherwise he would have never been given the contract and years he was.
Issue number one. These same owners also thought Raheem was the answer. It was a crap hire. They are crap owners since they bought Man U.

No slugger, I never once hinted that they built anything...I am well aware of them being born with a golden spoon in their mouth, but they are shrewd business men as well. The Glazer Empire continues to grow and I am sure we all know, it is not because of MalcomSchiano will be back next year...unless the Bucs lose the last three games and look like shit doing it...

Bingo. Freaking have SOMEONE BETTER lined up before you cut ties with the current guy.
"have SOMEONE BETTER lined up before you cut ties with the current guy."For once we are in agreement. Ironically, a number of people here would call that "underhanded."

Underhanded won us a Super Bowl.
