To fix our pass rush??

For me it's whats been suggested here already...and that is Rex Ryan and his 3-4. LVD, Kwon, Spence, Glanton would be pretty damn good blitzing LB's, while Beckwith will also be more useful in a 3-4. Then add more pieces in the draft... I don't care what it costs but do whatever it takes to get the top pass rusher. Then draft or sign 2 more guys that can wreak havoc. Go all in on the trenches on defense, and pray they stay healthy. No more being soft upfront. Enough is enough, time for the defense to consistently take over games.

We all know Ryan can scheme and blitz the hell out of a qb, and it'd be nice to see Kwon and LVD get 8-10 sacks each.

Because if we stick to a 4-3 that probably means that we are going to be relying on perhaps 2 rookie DE's to fix our pass rush issues, along with Spence who is too light for a 4-3, and who wants to see Ayers be relied on for qb pressure another year? I like the odds of our speedy LB's + plus 2 rookies to fix our pass rush, rather than sticking to a 4-3 and banking on 2 young DE's to be the answer...that's likely asking for too much too soon.

If we stick to a 4-3 it'd take 2-3 years at best imo to finally have an edge rush like the Seahawks, Eagles or Vikings. Your prototypical 4-3 DE's are extremely hard to find as we all know. Who's confident that we're going to find 2 prototypical 4-3 DE's?...that can also come in right away in produce? The odds are that we find only 1 worth a damn in a span of 2-3 years...and guess what, that still equals us having a terrible rotation.

The other thing I like about going to a 3-4 is that it opens up our options on being able to draft tweeners lb/de type players. Those kind of players actually exist in a decent amount compared to Simeon Rice or Everson Griffin type DE's....the struggle in finding just ONE of those guys is only second to trying to find a great QB.

Here's one thing though, would Rex take the D coordinator job if Mike Smith gets sent packing? Those 2 are extremely good friends am I right? That'd be weird for Rex to be the one to help push his friend Mike out the door...so would he maybe pass on the job and waits for the next team?
