I'm not currently advocating for this, but like to consider options. What type of draft pick(s) would McCoy realistically fetch in a trade? I'm confident that he could get a second, but questioning a first due to age/contract. He's All Pro, but the tires have significant tread.
If we got Vea (preferably with a trade down) and then have the adequate resources to get someone like Landry or Davenport, I'd consider this option as long as we can still get a CB in the first 2 rounds. There are good safeties still on the market who could be had for a 1/3 of McCoy's cap and the rest could be used for extensions if needed.
I'm not advocating for this, but it would be intriguing to supplement the defensive FA additions with a young nucleus of:
Vea
Landry/Davenport
CB i.e. Alexander
Reid as FA safety
Add 7-8 million of cap to extend a probable cap casualty like Kwon or get an above average FA next year.
A RB can still be picked up in 3rd or 4th with picks or trades.
