on his 8th HC and 8th OC in 6 years thru no fault of his own and if you think he can't take a team to the SB you're a naive twit

Is this Baker's wife?

It's rare for Head Coaches and Offensive Coordinators to get fired when their QB is playing well.  It happens, but not very often. But poor Baker had 8 HC/OC's fired through no fault of his own? Poor fella has horrible luck.

Yeah, right? Maddoc must be self-medicating...

…and now it appears Baker may have saved Bowles job.

still 3 games left to screw it up but Bowles loyalty to baker will be even more on the nose next year due to this

poor Trask. It’s just not fair

If Im Baker I wanna go the Kirk Cousins route play it out and continue to get paid, you found a good spot where a coaching staff, front office, owners and 80% of the city of Tampa believe in you, dont go chasing money and continue to play 158.3 passer rating football and the money will come. All those factors are almost impossible to find for Baker at this point, he needs us more than we need him. Qbs can play up til 35-40 this day and age, hes 28 sign a 2 year 1 guaranteed year then get a bigger contract at 30.

Cousins was way overpaid.  Perhaps the market will be somewhat flooded with the rookie class coming in.  If the Bucs want Mayfield they'll have to pay him, but we don't want a situation where you get an average quarterback who takes up so much cap space you can't afford the players you need to surround him.   If you have an average quarterback with some leadership quality the strategy is to put your money into other key positions to make up for it.

According to who?

And, compared to who?

i mean ideal would be 1 year, $25 million

what you don’t want to do is pull a Seahawks or giants and give the mediocre QB $35-$40 million a year for 3,4 years

Careful . . . the ANGRY Debatable Dans will not stand for that kind of "football acumen."

Stop it, Blayton.  It wont stop if you continue to play.

I'll clarify.  I don't begrudge any NFL player from getting the most they can, and he's always been a good but not great QB. He had a good year in 2022 and lost in the wildcard round, although he was not the reason they lost.  He had 3 TDs and no INTs and was 31 of 39 in that game.  But he was not the reason they won, because they didn't win. He's not a top ten QB and never was.  The Vikings are a 500 team for the rest of the time Cousins has been with them, and his QB rating has been midrange as well.  This year he was rated 14th before he got injured.

Because of the cap gymnastics required for his contract, he will count $28.5 mil against the Vikings cap in 2024, after he's gone.  That combined with the dead money for Danielle Hunter and Marcus Davenport adds up to about $50 mil in 2024 dead money paid to players no longer under contract.  Sound familiar?  The difference is the Bucs won a Superbowl with Tom Brady and mortgaged the cap to run it back again.  The Vikings lost in the wild card round with a QB who, while capable and competent, was no Tom Brady.  Imagine what the narrative would be here in Tampa Bay if the Bucs had mortgaged their cap on a midrange QB and never got out of the wildcard round?  Of course, we would look at that as a failure, and Licht would be taking a lot of heat for mismanaging the cap.

So they have nothing to show for their investment in Cousins, and now they're in cap hell for 2024.  So that's what I mean by "overpaid".  And I hope the Bucs don't make the same mistake with Mayfield who is beginning to show he is a good QB probably along the same caliber as cousins if he continues to trend in the right direction.

Taking away your cherry-picking, Cousins is 50-37-1 with the Vikings. So, well above .500

Regarding his QB rating...I have zero idea what you're talking about. Since 2018, he's been in the Top-10 in QB rating every year except for one. And, he's been in the Top-5 three different years.

This year, he's 4th. And, was on track to challenge 5,000 yards and 40 TD's, while completing nearly 70% of his passes.

By the way, he's ranked middle-of-the-pack this year regarding annual salary.

------

That being said, I'd love for you to provide a list of the "non-overpaid" QB's.

Especially when you consider that Cousins has been consistently ranked in the Top 5-10 in yardage, TD's, completion percentage, QB Rating, etc.

Look forward to your list.

Baker is going to sign for something like 3 years, $80M. It will be a bad contract.

IIRC there was a lot of grief given to Badabing when he suggested mayfield may be playing himself into a one year $25 million deal

Florio was on Ronnie and TKraz and they were talking about the Carr contract and how Baker will probably be asking for that kind of money.  They didn't have any information about that, but just speculating that is what he would probably be asking.  They also were talking about how much the cap would go up because the NFL revenues are going up.  So everything is relative to the cap.  But obviously you don't want to hamstring your ability to put together a good team around him.

Often left out of the cap discussions

Saw a composite ranking from 3 grading sites that ranks the Bucs 5th in the league in pass protection. Combine that with how good the WRs are….

Do not pay Mayfield. I’d offer him 1 year, $10M guaranteed. If he doesn’t want it he can go play for Washington

but yeah this is the same guy that humps Luke McCown and Kyle Trask.  Would have probably clamored for Ryan Griffin over Brady in 2020

Yeah, that’s most likely not happening.

Licht more or less confirmed it.

My guess would be 3/$85M-$90M with an out (Y3).

That’s assuming he doesn’t completely shit the bed these next 3 games.
