I could be talked into keeping Gage.
He's not worth 10m a year...more like 7.
Shaq Mason we should keep, you high as hell.
Smith can go. Fournette can go. I didn't even realize we still had Brate on contract. What the flying fuck was Licht thinking?
Brate hasn't been good in like 4 years
With the cap situation the way it is there isn't a valid argument for keeping Mason on the team at 30 years old and $9.5M when we already have Leverett, Hainsey, Jensen and Goedeke.

I mean in your offseason plans, who is the QB you are mocking us to sign?
luke sucked last year and not letting a couple game sample size anoint him as turning the corner. He will compete for starting spot maybe
to me who the QB is determine whether we take our cap medicine and tank or if we try to compete
i would argue that taking all of Brady’s hit this year is still in the cards if we choose the former
As JC posted, you are only saving $5 mil by releasing Gage, and then you have to find a #3 WR? Or if I'm right and Godwin goes on the block he's the #2 with probably a rookie in the mix. What WR are you going to get for $5 mil? It doesn't make sense to cut Gage, and you can't trade him. Might as well keep him.
It's more the structure of these contracts than the amount that makes the player more or less likely to be moved. The more money that is due in bonuses, the less likely that player is to be tradeable. The more money that is due in salary, which goes with the player, the more easily they can be moved, even if that salary is guaranteed. The money moves with them.

Carr at $33M in a trade. I have Goedeke as a backup going into 2023.

Nice! And who is the starting 5 offensive line ?

LT- 1st round pick
LG- Leverett
C- Jensen/Hainsey
RG-Jensen/Hainsey/Goedeke
RT- Wirfs
LT- 1st round pick
I'm hoping Skoronski falls, but I don't see that happening.
I'm not in love with Paris Johnson. I really keyed in on him in their playoff and wasn't impressed.
Not sure any other OT prospect is worth a top-20 pick.
need a pass rusher qb killa in the first round

JTS and Logan Hall have to step up. Have to start putting draft capital back into the OL
Gage is an interesting case. His production was hampered by the hammy issue all year. I believe his performance in the future could warrant his cap hit if he's healthy. He's still a young player and there's no reason to think he's going to be injury prone going forward, but if you want to lower his number a bit this year, you could renegotiate. I guess the question is whether he will actually get enough touches to warrant keeping him in the new offense with an unknown QB.
He's a good player and a nice #3. Is a pricey 3rd receiver a luxury we can't afford? I'd hate to see him get the axe.
I won't include his rookie numbers for the sake of a legit discussion. But in years 2-4 he averaged 667 yards and 3 TDs per year. This year he had 426 and 5. So down 200 yards but up 2 TDs. Guess what.... this is exactly who he is. It's a bad contract. The perfect #3 to go with Evans and Godwin is already on the team but they had him covering kicks all year.
Except for that one time they threw a potential TD off his chest. Tricky

The thinking that he was growing into a bigger contributor -- his last 2 years in Atlanta he went for 786 yards and 770 yards. His career trajectory was definitely pointed up, and in the right offense (which they believed they would have), he could have an even bigger impact. The Bucs weren't the only people who thought so. Numerous media people thought it was a very smart signing at the time, anticipating he would become a serious threat as a #3 receiver. He actually exceeded his career high for TDs with 5 despite being hurt most of the season. It's not hard to imagine him being a 900+ yard receiver if you're throwing the ball a fair amount. He also turned out to be pretty clutch as he got healthier.
It's unfair to judge his production this year without considering his injuries. I suppose it's fair to question whether you wanna pay 10 million for a #3 receiver who will probably be an 800-900 yard guy when healthy. I think that was maybe a luxury for a team that thought it might be playing for another Superbowl. Maybe it doesn't make sense as a salary for a 3rd receiver on a team that is either in a reload or rebuild stage, depending on who you ask.
I'm not sure Scotty Miller is the perfect #3, if that's who you're referring to... I like Miller, and think we should see more of him. I'm not sure he's a legit 3 though.

Based on those 2 seasons in ATL Gage would need 8-9 targets per game to reach 800-900 yards. That's not happening with Evans and Godwin on the field. Gage was getting 5 targets per game this season. Miller was so valuable to the offense because his speed dictated coverage and when he was left singled up he had the ability to cash in for long plays.
I couldn't care less what the media thinks and you shouldn't either. These are the same people that vote for Devin White All-Pro. It was a garbage signing from Day 1 and they need to get out of the contract immediately.
Cut/renegotiate gage. Decent player but way overpaid for a #3/4 WR
Same with Fournette for a #2 RB.
trade Donovan smith/Devin white
Profit
Cut/renegotiate gage. Decent player but way overpaid for a #3/4 WR
Let's look at specific players.
Russell Gage: The Bucs owe him $4.3mil in remaining signing bonus over two years. He has a $10 mil contract for 2023, $5 mil guaranteed, $5 mil more guaranteed on March 19th. So the Bucs have to make a decision on him before then. He can't be a "June 1st" cut.
Option A: - Cut Gage now, before 3/19/ 2023: Cost against 2023 cap $9.3 mil. Cost against 2024 cap $0 Cost of replacement WR3 ?
Option B: - Cut Gage after the 2023 season: Cost against 2023 cap $12.2 mil. Cost against 2024 cap $2.2 mil.
Cap savings by cutting Gage before 3/19 instead of after 2023 season: 2023 cap $2.9 mil 2024 cap $2.2 mil. Total cap savings $5.1 mil minus cost of replacement WR3.
WRs who earn $2 mil or so in 2023: Mack Hollins, Jamison Crowder, Zack Pascal, Keelan Cole. (Scottie Miller is not a WR3.)
So what do you want to do? Roll with Gage one more year, or save $2 or $3 mil on the cap by picking up a bargain basement WR3?

You have some weird thought pattern that run of the mill, below average NFL players cannot be replaced for cheap. You want to keep Gage as the #3 for $12.2M when we're damn near $60M over the cap. It's mind boggling to me. And yes Scotty Miller can be a #3 with Evans and Godwin. We saw it in 2020. Brady had a higher QBR and we scored more points per game with Miller as #3 than AB that year.
