Cut/renegotiate gage. Decent player but way overpaid for a #3/4 WR
Let's look at specific players.
Russell Gage: The Bucs owe him $4.3mil in remaining signing bonus over two years. He has a $10 mil contract for 2023, $5 mil guaranteed, $5 mil more guaranteed on March 19th. So the Bucs have to make a decision on him before then. He can't be a "June 1st" cut.
Option A: - Cut Gage now, before 3/19/ 2023: Cost against 2023 cap $9.3 mil. Cost against 2024 cap $0 Cost of replacement WR3 ?
Option B: - Cut Gage after the 2023 season: Cost against 2023 cap $12.2 mil. Cost against 2024 cap $2.2 mil.
Cap savings by cutting Gage before 3/19 instead of after 2023 season: 2023 cap $2.9 mil 2024 cap $2.2 mil. Total cap savings $5.1 mil minus cost of replacement WR3.
WRs who earn $2 mil or so in 2023: Mack Hollins, Jamison Crowder, Zack Pascal, Keelan Cole. (Scottie Miller is not a WR3.)
So what do you want to do? Roll with Gage one more year, or save $2 or $3 mil on the cap by picking up a bargain basement WR3?
You have some weird thought pattern that run of the mill, below average NFL players cannot be replaced for cheap. You want to keep Gage as the #3 for $12.2M when we're damn near $60M over the cap. It's mind boggling to me. And yes Scotty Miller can be a #3 with Evans and Godwin. We saw it in 2020. Brady had a higher QBR and we scored more points per game with Miller as #3 than AB that year.
JC, I guess math is not your strong suit. If the Bucs cut Gage they will pay him $9.3 mil in guaranteed money. If they don't cut him they will pay him $12.2 mil in 2023. That's a difference of $2.9 mil, the amount saved by cutting Gage. Your phone should have a calculator on it if you need to double check that number.

Designate Gage as a 6/1 cut and his 2023 cap savings is $5M.

Can you designate a guy as a 6/1 cut if you cut him before then? Cuz we need to cut 55+ million by March 15.
Normally you can do moves and then not make them official until June 1. But not for Gage. After March 19th the other $5 mil of his 2023 salary becomes fully guaranteed. So you have to cut him loose before then.Designate Gage as a 6/1 cut and his 2023 cap savings is $5M.

Here is the Spotrac comment:
ontract Notes:
- $15M guaranteed at signing (2022 salary + 2022 roster bonus + $5M of 2023 salary)
- Additional $5M of 2023 salary fully guarantees 3/19/2023
Bottom line is that this team needs a CB opposite of Davis, a young front seven defender and a young interior OL. The rest like QB, OT, TE, WR and RB can be sorted out.
But what hampered the team last year was the interior OL play along with the lack of impact from the front seven overall. Upgrade that and the rest is easy to do which is why I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucs trade out of the first round completely.
This will allow Licht to fill up the roster with cheap rookie contracts and retain the veteran Bucs he wants. That leaves like a few spots left where UDFAs and vets on mini will compete for roster spots.
