Ten placekickers have been taken ahead of Robert Aguayo in the NFL. While Aguayo's success isn't tied to players who came before him, what level of success should be expected from kickers taken this high, and what value have past teams garnered from such selections? Well, lets compare:10. Jason Hanson - 56th overallKicked for the Lions for 20 years.9. Chip Lohmiller – 55th overallPlayed 7 seasons with Washington and two more with other teams.8. Chris Bahr – 51st overallOnly played for Cincinnati for four years, but played 9 more with the Raiders and one with the Chargers. Younger brother Matt, a 6th round pick, played longer and posted a better career FG%.7. Mike Nugent – 47th pick overallPlayed with the Jets for four seasons, currently kicking for the Bengals after brief stops in Arizona and Tampa Bay.6. Jerry DePoyster – 37th overallMissed 12 of 15 career FG attempts before being converted into a full time punter. Was out of the league after 5 seasons.5. Chester Marcol – 34th overall2-time All Pro selection in his 9 year career with Green Bay. 4. John Lee – 32nd overallDrafted by the Cardinals in 1986, Lee is still statistically the best kicker in the history of the Pac-10 (Pac-12) and still currently holds the NCAA record for field goals attempted and made. He was out of the NFL after just one season.3. Sebastian Janikowski – 17th overall16 year starter for the Raiders.2. Steve Little – 15th overallLost his starting job after two seasons and was out of the league after 3.1. Charlie Gogolak – 6th overallDrafted by Washington, played three seasons with the Redskins and three more with the Patriots. The Good6 of the 10 had long NFL careers. The BadOnly 4 remained with the team that drafted them with a premium pick for longer than 4 seasons. The UglyThe highest FG% of any of them is held by Jason Hanson, 82.4%. Last year's two Pro Bowl selections at kicker for the NFC, Josh Brown and Dan Bailey, both have better career FG percentages. Brown was a 7th round draft pick, Bailey was an undrafted FA. The AFC Pro-Bowl selection, Stephen Gostkowski, a 4th round pick, also has a better career average. The highest of the three belongs to Bailey, the only one who went undrafted.None on the list have been selected to more than two Pro-Bowls. In fact, Hanson and Marcol are the only ones who were selected to more than 1.
