I'm sure we all have dream scenarios. Here's mine:
Free Agency. We have a lot of money and its time to spend it correctly. The good teams usually aren't having to depend on the draft to net immediate starters. We aren't a good team, but it would be nice to only have to depend on 1 or 2 immediate starters (our first round and second round picks) out of the draft.
1) Sign Andrew Norwell, G, Panthers - to play guard.
2) Sign Ryan Jensen, C, Baltimore Ravens. Move Marpet to guard.
3) Sign Lamarcus Joyner, Rams - to play safety, and spot mickle corner.
4) Resign Grimes. If we can't resign him, then we need to go after a FA corner.
5) Sign Evans and Winston to long-term deals.
6) Resign Clinton McDonald as McCoy's back-up.
7) Release Sweezy, Ayers, Chris Conte, and Gholson.
8) Sign whoever comes cheapest between Dion Lewis or Crowell. I also like Barber, and I don't think RB's are worth high draft picks unless your team is already loaded elsewhere. RB's often are overrated and overvalued because of scheme and O-line. Can anyone tell me a single year when an Andy Ried offence didn't have a productive running game?
9) Resign Fitz. He's always been a great back-up and good spot starter.
The Draft. In FA, we have taken care of a lot. We won't have to invest in the offensive line in the draft. We won't have to invest in safety. And, we won't even have to worry too much about RB. Our draft will be about the defensive line mostly. And, this is where we FINALLY decide to make a scheme change to the 3-4. McCoy will be a DT/DE - outside. Noah Spence will be a rush outside LB in this scheme. And, we will need to draft depth there. But, if we move to this scheme, we will need to invest in a starting nose-tackle and a starting DT. And, we will need to draft depth. Draft by rounds:
1) Vita Vea*, NT, Washington. Starter at NT.
2) Donte Jackson*, CB, LSU. Competes to start at CB.
3) Trenton Thompson*, DT, Georgia. Competes to start at DT.
4) Derrick Nnadi, NT, Florida State. Vea's back-up.
5) Nathan Shepherd*, DT, Fort Hays State. Competes to start at DT.
6a) Shaquem Griffin, OLB, Central Florida. Competes with Noah Spence as a rush LB.
