When Bucs need 1st down, they throw to these guys Greg Auman, Times Staff WriterFriday, December 11, 2015 1:31pmTampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson (83) is brought down by Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman (24) after a reception in the first quarter of a game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015. LOREN ELLIOTT | TimesWhen it comes to moving the chains and extending drives, nobody in the NFL has been as efficient as Bucs WRs Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans this season. With rookie QB Jameis Winston throwing to them, Jackson and Evans rank first and second in the league in percentage of catches that go for first downs — Jackson (28 of 32) has gotten first downs on 87.5 percent of his catches, while Evans (45 of 54) is right behind him at 83.3 percent.Of the 138 NFL players with at least 25 catches, they rank 1-2, and only two others can even boast 80 percent going for first downs — Houston's DeAndre Hopkins (80.2) and Carolina's Ted Ginn (80.0).He only has played in three games so it's a smaller sample, but the same is true for Bucs TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who has eight first downs from his 10 receptions this season.
