I’m pretty happy with our picks, with my favorite being Kancey, who has been on my radar since the end of the season. But what are this coming seasons expectations for these guys?
Yes, I think Kancey has the make-up to provide meaningful plays this season. With his explosive first step he will find a way to disrupt, but won’t be an every down player. May not start.
Mauch will be a developmental player with a big upside. Not sure he’ll be ready to contribute this season. Yaya will be developmental as well. Remember everyone that thought Hall would come in replace Sub and JTS would replace JPP? That doesn’t happen with Dlinemen picked late first round of further.
And no one we get in the 5th round or later is going to jump into the nickel corner spot and excel. Although a fine draft, this is turning into a developmental draft.
Mauch could win a starting job so that right there is meaningful snaps.
Diaby has a clearer path towards meaningful snaps because Shaq is coming back from injury and the team isn't going to put a huge workload on him early on. Throw in that Nelson has a different skillset from Diaby. So, for certain packages you are going to see Diaby or Nelson frequently.
So, Mauch is the only question mark as he can be viewed as a developmental player or quickly compete for a starting job at guard or tackle.

Realistically, this team is going to be bad. Front office hasn't done much to rectify that. Couple okay to solid FA signings and and okayish draft (so far).
For that reason I'm surprised they took 2x24 year old raw prospects instead of 21-22 years olds.

That’s post draft excitement. Yaya won’t be ready even if Shaq isn’t healthy. Those snaps will go to someone else. It’s extremely rare to see an edge get drafted where Yaya did come in and play well his rookie season. Again, I am happy with Mauch and Yaya picks, but not expecting much this year.

I am okay with Licht taking older prospects because in the past his MO has been to draft 20 year olds with a lot of upside, potential and needing a lot of development.
Mauch does need some development but I wouldn't be surprised if he hits the ground running at tackle or guard. Diaby isn't a Spence, Nelson or JTS where he needs time to develop as he is going to hit the ground running day 1.

Yaya is a departure from previous edge rushers Licht likes to draft. Yaya's game is better coming out than Spence, JTS or Nelson. You will see.
@alldaway - I am so hoping you’re right, but that’s not how it normally works out. And I’m not just saying that because of JTS and Hall. That’s the NFL. 3rd round Edge players don’t come in and make plays as rookies. He’s a new look edge for us, which I’m happy about. But it’ll take time… if it happens at all.

Shaq and Gill both have to recover from devastating injuries. So YaYa is going to see playing time one way or another IMO. Under normal circumstances I think they would have Yaya sit and learn for a year. But Bowles needs to improve the pass rush to win games as he is on the hot seat. So that is why the Bucs reached a bit with YaYa IMVHO.
As I watch more reviews and film of this group I see a lot of reaches with where we selected guys. Besides Kancey everyone else was taking much earlier than their projection. Now that’s fine if a guy works out, but it is a concern.

Where was the running back , could have drafted mcbride in rnd 7 and many opportunities. Not happy with our backfield. White and Vaughn..thats it. Chase edmunds was given a golden ticket to start for dolphins and eventually got cut! ..the trend with him is not good..the kyle rudolph of running backs
- Kancey, we should see the usual 4-5 men's rotation on the Dline with Vea only playing 55-65% of the snaps every year (NT/3-tech), Gaines(NT), Kancey(3/4i/5-tech) and Hall(3/4i/5-tech)... Licht's probably looking to sign a cheap FA for the 5th men (Gholston?), unless Bowles really likes Senat!?
- Mauch, week 1 starting (Left) Guard! (looks like we're moving Wirfs at LT, Goedeke at RT and Hainsey at RG)
- Diaby/Ramirez, backup/ST... fighting with Gill for the 4th & 5th spots, but may play a bigger role the first weeks of the season (depending on Shaq's return date)!
- Dennis, backup/ST... LVD and Devin never leave the field! if Dennis shines during the preseason, Britt should be a ps candidate. (Gilbert's a better ST player!)
- Durham, backup... may receive 5-6 snaps per game in the Red Zone, Bowles probably wants the good run-blocker on the field!
- Hayes, need to shine on ST or could be a ps candidate... Licht needs to sign a vet nickel back! (Troy Hill? Bryce Callahan? P.J. Williams? Logan Ryan?)
- Trey Palmer, is he a new Scotty Miller/Tyler Johnson or the next Jaelon Darden/Justin Watson/Kenny Bell? now we have a young group of receivers fighting for the last 3-4 spots (including the KR/PR jobs)!
