Hypothesis
Kicking is about mechanics and confidence. The move back of the PAT has created an “all pressure all the time” situation. Accordingly, many more PATs have been missed. This has had two negative feedbacks on Kickers;
1) It’s disabled diminished-stress PATs that almost surely helped them repeat their mechanics in game situations, thereby allowing them to have cleaner, consistent mechanics during stressful kicks.
2) It’s broadly diminished kicker confidence throughout the league.
So what has this done for kicking?
It’s made kicker production more swingy, thereby increasing the relative importance of kicking in the game at large and increased the value of good kickers proportionately.
Question 1:
Do you agree with this hypothesis?
Question 2:
Is this actually good for the game?
